Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

Compaq notebook won't boot up

I installed Windows Live OneCare last night on my Compaq Presario V2220 notebook. A few hours later my notebook froze and I had to perform Ctrl/Alt/power button to shut it down. When I went to turn on my notebook this morning, it won’t boot up. Instead it seems to be stuck in a loop:

1. Briefly shows Compaq screen
2. Briefly shows black screen stating Windows did not start successfully with options to start Windows in Safe Mode, Normal Mode, etc. Regardless of what option is chosen,
3. Briefly shows Windows start-up screen
4. Shows blue screen stating Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the computer

It then sounds as if it is shutting down, then starts this process all over again. I recently moved and my original program CDs are in storage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shawn. Thanks for the response. Unfortunately when I select to start it in Safe Mode, it still runs through the loop as described above. One thing I forgot... OneCare ran a defrag last night and there was an error message that said it couldn't complete it. Sorry, don't remember the exact language now.

Didn't see a link you mentioned for startup/diagnostic software?

When you boot the computer back up go into Safe Mode and check to see if you can roll the computer back to the point before you installed the software.

If so this should work. If it works then run a virus scan, a defrag of the hard drive and cleans the temp files.

You can do a diagnostic startup and uninstall Onecare. So once that it is uninstall ed it should be smooth sailing.

Here is a link for some startup / diagnostic software you could try after booting.

I hope this helps

Power button problem in Compaq Presario Laptop V6307TU? I have a laptop - HP Compaq Presario V6307TU which, since a few months, starts automatically immediately after I shutdown or hibernate the laptop....

Windows corruption - either a driver is malformed or one of the Wake-up settings from the device or Power settings is wrong. Easiest way is to reinstall: use a generic XP install disk with your key and later get the drivers from the HP site.
