It may depend on the remote. These are the codes for the 5.0 IR remote: Sanyo 590, 683, 589, 542, 652 . http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental_content/techportal/content/tech/remotehome.shtml lists all of the Dish remotes. Click on your model and then the link for the remote codes is on the left hand side of the page.
However, if your remote is older than your TV or was programmed within 6 months of the TV coming on the market, the code you need may not be included. In that case, you need a newer remote. (There is a time lag for the codes being provided to the universal remote vendors.)
I hope this helps.

590 worked
590 only worked for one day then had to re-do. Looking up link next. http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental...

Which remote do you have? Are the remote batteries well seated and are the contacts good (silver color)? Bad contacts can sometimes be cleaned with a pencil eraser. If the battery compartment cover is missing, the batteries can come loose easily.
Usually a code that works for one day and then needs to be redone indicates a problem with the batteries. However, as the remote ages, the remote itself can fail. A digital camera can test if the remote is sending an IR remote (this won't work for the UHF ones). Take a picture of the beam side of the remote while someone presses the buttons. The resulting picture will show the light of the IR beam.
The buttons can also get stuck and then "reprogram" the remote. (Although more often, a few buttons will fail first.) I've never had the board fail on a remote but I wouldn't rule it out yet.
Good luck.
