Hello gcbiker,

I'm sorry to hear that there is a problem with the screen of your Insignia® MP3 player. Without having a technican actually look at the unit to determine what repairs are needed, I cannot provide you with an estimate for the repairs. However, my guess is that even if the unit is repairable it may make more economic sense to just replace the unit with a new MP3 player.

The high cost of repairs combined with the affordability of newer MP3 players really makes repair a less desirable solution if there is any substantial damage to the player.

If you do decide you want to pursue repairs on the unit, any Best Buy™ store would be able to assist you in getting the unit sent to a repair center for an estimate. You would need to pay an up front fee to get the diagnosis performed but if you do decide to go through with the repairs the cost of the diagnosis fee would be applied to the repair.

Hope that helps.
Ken

To make it work you have to change it to MSC mode (Only for Windows XP and 2K, it somewhat technical so do it at your own pace and follow instruction:
  • Click on the Start button and Select Settings. Then click on Control Panel.
  • Double click System, and then select the Hardware tab.
  • Click on Device manager.
  • Click on the '+' for Portable device and you will see "Insignia Video Player".
  • Right click and select "Update driver".
  • A Hardware Update Window will open, Select "No, not this time" when windows asks to search for software. Click next. Check the "Install from a list or specific location" checkbox and then click next.
  • On the next screen select "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install".
  • Click next and then you will see a window showing two drivers that are compatible with your player.
  • To put the device into MSC mode select "USB Mass Storage Device" and click next.
  • A finish installing driver will appear and your device will now appear as a hard drive on your system.
  • To switch back to MTP mode, open the device manager as above and click on the "+" for "Universal Serial bus controllers" and you will see "Insignia Video Player".
  • Then follow the steps above until you reach the "Select the device driver..." screen in which you select "MTP device".
  • Then click next and your device will be reset back into MTP mode.
Make sure your insignia has the latest firmware, this i provide for you also here: http://www.insignia-products.com/t-New%20Video%20Player%20Firmware.aspx

I have a similar problem. It seems the only way to do this is use the Best Buy supplied program. Is anyone willing to release the playlist format so a converter can be created?
