If what you are saying is the screen shows up and then goes dim or starts dim, and you can see a dark image (maybe reddish in tint)...

Your problem is a bad CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) at the top of the LCD panel.

You can find many websites that sell these parts, but make sure you have the right model.

If you feel comfortable with working on components, you can replace this part yourself. Otherwise, you may want to pay a technician to do it. Make sure to get a fixed price quote before authorizing the work.

Here is a website on LCD repair for laptops, but it the same principal for most LCD displays (TVs).

2 years old may be due for bad DC filter caps inspection which is very common failure on LCD TV's and monitors.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

Remove the stand and all the screws in the back, then use thin flat blade screw driver to crack open the case starting at the bottom rdge and work you way around.

My screen fades after 3 seconds after it was switched on

It can be the problem in the backlight inverter circuits, you will need to open it up and inspect the inside. Please see my pictures here to get some ideas what to look for inside:

Hopefully it will be bad lamp assemblies. For 15" monitor, I would not take it to repair shop, it will end up costing you at least $50 and more, use that money toward new monitor instead.

My monitor has gone from a beautiful, sharp screen to one that is faded and blurry. It is only about 6 months old. Is there an adjustment that can be made?

Hello Katherine ann, hi, the faded and blurry picture is usually caused by poor LCD panel connections, due to loose contacts and screws. This is usually poor ventilation, or factory defects. Since you mention its only 6 months old, it is still cover for warranty, call your dealer for service.
