The only brand my e55 recognize is HP DVD-r 8x all others can't be read it

  • capricorn27 Jun 20, 2008

My DMR-E55EB has suddenly stopped playing bought original dvd movies - I've tried several that have worked before with no problem. I insert the disk and it says self-checking, whurrs, clicks, then the unit switches off for a brief second before restarting the whole process and it keeps going round in this loop until I can eject the disk and power off. I also have trouble ejecting the disk as I have to wait for the split second in this loop when it powers back up before I can do so.

My DMR-E55 will play a finalized disc. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN A BLANK ram DISC is put into record. The player cannot read the blank disc.

I'v tryed cleaning the dsic, putting in a new disc, and blowing out the inside on the dvd player

Same problem as previous person. The player play finalized discs and store bought discs but when a new DVD- disc is put in, the player displays "NO READ". I am using the same type disc I've always used. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks Mike

Try checking the scan and pickup heads of the DVD with a DVD cleaning disk . If this does not help the optics or the decoder/encoder might be defective. In that case, you will need a qualified TV repair person to work on these units for you all.

I hope this helps

Trying to copy VHS to Disc-Says"Unknown disc"

Hi,

how long have you been using the player and has it ever accept blank DVD-R discs in the past.

The problem might be as a result of weak laser (lens) or the blank discs inserted might not be compatible with player.

When the laser(lens) of a player becomes weak, it will not be able to read blank discs. It only takes a very strong laser to read/accept blank discs. If it happens that the laser (lens) is the cause of the problem, then it means you will need to replace the laser (lens) to a brand new one to be able to read blank disc. Though the player might be playing DVD and CD, note that blank disc is stronger when it comes to reading from the laser (lens), it requires sharper laser. I hope you understand this.

So, insert a CD into the player and observe if it will play.If it plays, then its obvious that your laser is very weak.

Concerning the incompatibility issue, I hope you are aware that there are various kinds of empty DVD discs such as DVD +, DVD -, DVD RW. Try any of this empty DVD discs as one of them as to be compatible with this DVD recorder.

Amongst the two topics discussed above, one has to be the cause of the problem. So its up to you to figure out which is the cause of the problem.

I hope you understand the above....

I wish you good luck.

Player will not read discs. keeps saying "no disc" when discs are inserted. Worked fine until today.

Easy option first , clean laser with a laser cleaning disc ,if that doesn't work then (I assume you have tried more than 1 disc). a laser won't read a dirty disc, you may have a laser mechanism fault ie laser sticking in its tracks. you could try oiling the cradle that the laser sits on. other than that it is a costly repair.

Player keeps saying no disc why?

there r two reasons that the player says no disc on display. 1)the disc which you insert in your player is really not redable.check out that disc in any other player and confirm whether its working or showing the same fault in other player too. 2)the disc may be perfectly all right, but the lens in the player which reads the disc is either got dusty or the lens is turned faulty. for dussty lens you can clean it with tissue paper and check out .but for the faulty lens its necessary to replace the lens.thats a costly issue.

Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD Recorder won't read most dvd-r brands

Hello jancinn,

This might be due to a dirty pickup or scan laser head, or the optics as a whole might be going bad (both are common problems). A qualified TV repair person should be able to determine if the scan laser or pickup head are bad by doing a laser power test. If the optical devices are dirty it is just a simple matter of cleaning them with a DVD cleaning disk, however if the optics are bad, then replacing them is actually cost inefficient, and you may want to think about getting a new DVD player/recorder.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
