Probably the battery is faulty or has stopped working. Or the connection from usb to the battery is not working. If that the cause you need to take it to a tech shop for repair. I would suggest (if you are good in repairing tech electronic) check the USB port first if that's damaged then you need to replace that or in other case if the battery is faulty you will need to replace that.
Error code 21:xx indicates a faulty condensation sensor in the cameras tape mechanism and will require major disassembly to repair. Error codes 31:xx indicate a problem in the tape transport mechanism and again will require major disassembly to repair. The faulty firewire socket can be replaced.
Factory repair for your camera will run you in the range of about $800. However, I do know of a repair shop that does excellent work at reasonable prices: www.discountcamerarepair.com. The cost will probably be closer to $100.
Check the Sony site directly and send it to the location suggested by your own location. These cameras are only repaired at the regional level. The repair should qualify under the "fixed cost" program. The cost may seem a bit high, but without an estimate, there is no way to determine the extent of hte damage. The repair cost includes the replacement of internal boards should the replacement cost be less than the repair cost. I can't provide more info as I don't know your location.
Bent firewire pins are common and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician. My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs. I have an outdated SONY
HC-32 mini DV .At first,I had difficulties connecting my cam to my
PC.After lots of fuss&buzz it turned out to be the faulty FireWire
port at the docking station.Doesn't cost much to fix,but genuine parts
(that darn port) was not available.it is then necessary to do some
modifications to use compatible parts instead.
No,no,no.problem not completely solved,not yet.
then could get connections. But it was totally
unstable&unreliable. After another lots of fuss&buzz, this time it
was the faulty FireWire card that I installed.Replacing with the new
one (same kinda cheapo made-in-Chinese card, but different brand) the problem is now
Firewire port consists of physical socket and a pc board. Usally the when need to repair, technician replaces the whole assembly. So take it to your trusted repair shop and replace it. Since it requires some disassembly, it will be under a standard repair catagory. -James. For further assistance by email, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com
Since you have not given even the barest info of what is the problem I will guess that you can't download your pix to your computer because you require a firewire connection that is not on your computer!!! Right?? Well, the fix is quite easy. Just buy a firewire adapter card for your computer. costs under $10 on Ebay!
Is your firewire controller turned on or enabled in the BIOS? Maybe its off. when your PC boots up, use the F2 key or del to get into th e BIOS, under peripherals, there may be a firewire controller that can be disabled/enabled. Check that and get back to us.
If the physical connector is broken, replacement cost for that part is about $30.00 (connector is mounted on a circuit board which needs to be replaced.) If the connector is good, but the firewire interface in the camera is bad, repair involves replacement of the main circuit board, which is between $400 and $500. These are parts costs, they don't include labor.
yes I am aware of that problem. Basically one should change the so called VC441 Board. Luckily PAL version has almost twice cheaper VC441 board then the US version. For my account about 300 Euro.
So, in order to repair the camcorder above mentioned board has to be replaced.
If you need more info please advice.
