Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Fluctuating volume Our old TV (10-15 years) still has a good picture but the volume will increase and/or decrease with no external prompting it seems. Even if we have the sound turned all the way down, it will at some point jump up to unbearable levels and we are not able to turn it back down. Turning it off and then back on makes no difference. Incidentally, we have not been able to control the volume for quite some time with a remote but have had to use the control on the TV itself to do this. Any idea if this is something that can be fixed, or should we just trash the TV? Actually, we have replaced it already with a bigger flat screen TV but would like to use it in a bedroom if we can get this problem fixed.

It is near impossible to assist without the make and model. Please update this with that info and we should be able to help.
Thanks,

I have the following setup: AV Receiver: Pioneer

Very common problem with today's receivers. Receivers made today don't have a true preamp section in the amplifier and do not amplify the sound to the extent of an older receiver. I have large 15" front speakers on my system, and have stuck with my 15 year old receiver just because I know that a new receiver will not have the power to drive them well. Many of the newer receivers need to be turned up to 50-60% before you can even hear anything from the speakers.

Here are a few steps you can try!
1. You may have accidentally pressed mute on the remote, so press mute again
2.You may have decreased the volume to the lowest setting, so increase it.
3. if the sound is through external speakers then try to reconnect the speaker cables securely.
4.Depending on the type of the signal feeding cable from the signal source, if you see three cables then one is for picture (usually with a yellow connecting jack) and the other two are for audio(usually one is red and the other white jack). Try to reconnect the audio cables securely from the receiver to the TV.
Hopefully this will work!
Good luck1

I have picture but no sound. Checked for mute button, increased/decreased volume, unplugged tv and still nothing.

some sets will have an option to turn off the speakers (different from mute); this is used when you want your tv to output to a sound system with external speakers. check your menu settings for something which disables tv speakers--that is probably your issue.

The sound is good but the picture is gone. It is a new tv--42" flat screen. Even the input--other messages are blank

If you can't see the volume increasing and decreasing when you press the volume button and if the menu will not appear when you press the menu button then the television has a problem even though it is brand new. When you have no picture the problem is most likely loose inverters or the inverter board needing to be replaced.

Re: Hannspree HF255 1) How does one increase the volume as pressing the button seems only to decrease it. 2) How does one improve the quality of sound of the internal speakers?

If you have one button that decreases the volume, then there is a second button that increases it. Either that or the menu button is used to assign an up or down function to the volume.
You can't improve the quality of the internal speakers. But a good set of external ones!

How do I increase the volume on my Nokia 1661?

There are 2 types of volume in your nokia phone that you can increase or decrease.

The first one is the ring tone volume. You can either increase or decrease your ring tone volume by pressing the menu key then go to settings, go to profile, select any desired profile go to personalise go to ringing volume, then increase or decrease by using the navigation button to the right or left.

The second way is to increase or decrease the volume of the speaker of your phone which i think is the cause of your question (this volume enables you to hear clear and loud the person on the other phone). You increase or decrease the volume by making a call, as soon as the call starts ringing, press the navigation key to right to increase the volume or to the left to decrease the volume.
