    In the meanwhile, I actually got someone good on the Xerox technical support line. We worked through several things and by some miracle we have resolved the issue. Thank you very much for your help and support.

    Smart Solve,

    I did get all the information and I thank you so much for all your help. There are some problems with the chat that are not your fault. I had no success with the HP URL. It refused to go in properly and I couldn't find the problem to get the page loaded.

    I never had a magenta issue. I was refering to a question that another customer had asked that sounded like my problem but with magenta, whereas mine was cyan. The Google search is what brought me to FixYa in the first place.

    Again, I had the same problem with the URL for the Xerox reference and couldn't resolve it.

    NOTE: FixYa could improve a chat communication by allowing a URL to be typed in completely without the irregular line breaks and spaces.

    Finally, the Xerox Print Quality Sheet is where I started with this issue last week. After that a lousy Xerox tech. Today, as I said, I got lucky with the Xerox tech and Bingo. We worked through a lot of things and I couldn't say what was the final fix. All I know is that my last print came out perfect and I'm satisified.

    I would love to give you a perfect score. You deserve it for all the hard work. However, without a resolution and my expense and time for the chat I'm afraid that we only got to helpful.

    Just out of curiosity - did you get to look at all the info I posted on your chat after you left the office? I worked on your issue for about 2 hours, and held it open, hoping you would get back, until about 2:45. I did give you a bunch of great info, which should be helpful in the future, if it didn't end up being needed today. I am also very interested to know what was wrong, and if it happened to be something that I did mention....

Which says maintenace required


The message indicates its time to clean/change the drum or other items inside the printer. You can purchase a maintenace kit online or take it in for service. You can also clear this message if you don't want to service your printer ... follow these steps: ***Keep in mind not doing the maintence may cause expensive issues down the road***

1. Shut the Printer off. (Use the shut off switch)

2. Hold down the Left Side of the ITEM and VALUE Buttons while powering the Printer back on.

3. Continue to hold Buttons until the Printer says “RESET MAINTENANCE COUNTER”, Then release the Buttons.

Cartridge Error Message



Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.

2 Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, gently move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit.
3 Remove both cartridges from the AIO. Close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: There is a hardware problem with the printer. Continue to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Continue to Step 4.

4 Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, gently move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit.
5 Insert the color cartridge. Close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to Cleaning the Cartridge Contacts, and then repeat steps 4 and 5 of this procedure. If you have already tried cleaning the contacts, continue to Defective Cartridge Test.

No: Continue to step 6.
6 Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, gently move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit.
7 Insert the black/photo cartridge. Close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to Cleaning the Cartridge Contacts, then repeat steps 6 and 7. If you have already tried cleaning the contacts, continue to Defective Cartridge Test.

No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.

I got advice from RichardM69. Although I could not complete all the steps he told me to take, my printer suddently started printing everything that had been in its queue. I hope it will continue to work -- my fingers are crossed.

Installing ink cartridge


I've had this problem too. The only way to make the message go away is to buy the ink from Dell. Although generic ink cartriges will work the printer will not/can not reset the "low ink" message unless you buy the cartriges directly from Dell. So you can use another brand, but you'll just have to overide the low ink message when it pops up by telling it to continue printing. Then you can tell when the ink is low by seeing it when it prints out.

HP 7210 OfficeJet All-in-One errors


My Hp came with a setup CD that has very specific (required) drivers. Truthfully, if you machine is using the wrong drivers for the selected printer, it will interpret the bi-directional communication with the printer wrong - as evidenced by the false "Paper Jam" message.

Here's a path to HP's drivers for the 72000 series printer and Mac OS.
