GE GSH22JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator issue. Unit is approx. 1 year in service.

    1. Unit stopped dispensing ice, yet continued to make new ice. That is, for at least for 4 hours.

    2. Unit began making an audible "ticking noise", every second or so, as if the unit was attempting to initiate a process such as start the compressor; (better described a whirr-click) appears to be emanating from behind the "silver/aluminum inspection plate (lower right if facing the rear of the appliance). Notable also is the lights on the console, interior, and entire circuit dim momentarily each cycle.

    3. Switching on the dispenser light (front console) causes the ticking noise to become quieter (returns to louder state if bulb is removed.

    3. If the dispenser arm (as if to trigger the unit to dispense ice) is depressed, in either ice position, all "noises" cease, only to resume once the switch is released. However the unit still will dispense water, but in "spurts" as it appears to be interrupted by the "tick".

4.Unit after several hours seems to have ceased cooling, most notably the freezer as the ice in the dispenser has begun to melt.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

I had EXACTLY the same problem. GE came out today and fixed it. My unit is 2years old. The control board in the rear of your fridge is faulty (mine had 2 blown capacitors) and needs to be replaced. They told me I'd have to pay a $69 service charge to have the tech take a look. He came in with the control board in hand, replaced it in about 10mins and it's cooling fine now. Best of all, he only charged me $2 for the parking meter! Hope this helps. BTW, the tech told me it would've cost me $350 if I'd called another service company, so give GE a call... Best of luck, God Bless.

The fridge stopped working last night. The light works, but the fridge just makes this clicking sound every couple of minutes, doesn't sound like anything is running and it does not get cool at all. Any...

Not a good sign, clicking. Usually that click comes from the compressor power circuit. The compressor is attempting to start but it does not. The clicking is from an overload protector that heats up from current draw. It clicks and cuts the power to the compressor, cools down, and the cycle starts again. Could be a start capacitor went bad, but it is probably the compressor.

My 5 year old GE GSH22JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator recently stopped cooling. I noticed a build up of frost on the freezer, so unplugged the fridge and let the ice melt away. After this,...

The problem you describe is that your defrost circuit has failed. The fridge should stop the compressor periodically and turn on the defrost heater to melt the frost buildup. Since the frost in building up on your coils, the fan can't blow the cold air into the fridge compartment. It defrost is controlled by a module that turns on the heater. Most of these failures have to do with the defrost heating element burning out. It can be replaced by someone who has some mechanical ability.

The coil and heater is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the panel in the back. You can obtain parts from appliance repair outlet or online like or

Fridge question

Sounds like you mad have a bad relay or overload on the compressor. I would also check your condenser fan motor to make sure its running and blowing air on the compressor to cool it. If its not running the compressor may be overheating and shutting off on its overload. If the condenser fan motor is running I would assume that you would need a new relay and overload it will come in a kit. Usually it will make a clicking sound when the compressor is TRYING to start and then shuts off on its overload if the start components are bad.
Hope this helps _MJ_

A clicking sound was coming from behind my fridge and the temp display was not working. digital display. the light in the fridge comes on but the fridge is not working What could it be?

You have a bad main control board , located on the back of the refrig , behind an 8" X 10" panel . Part number WR55X10942 . This control board , usually clicks when the compressor tries to start , or when the compressor cooling fan tries to start . It also controls the display .

Frigidaire Gallery Side by Side - Fridge not cooling

Locate the defrost timer and rotate the dial a small amount clockwise. If the compressor starts the timer should be replaced. If the compressor does not start check the temperature control. It may be bad, if it is bad try jumpering the thermostat wires. If it starts and runs the thermostat is bad. Replace the thermostat.

GSH22JSRE SS not cooling

I would strongly advise seeking a competent fridge guy. If it is the compressor (which sounds like a distinct possibility) they should be able to identify it very quickly. They would then be able to give you a cost on replacement. Alternatively you could try throwing it back at where you got it from and see if there is an extended parts only warranty. Some manufacturers now have three or even five years warranty on major components (ie compressors). Although there is no guarantee of this, its always worth a try, you might get someone sympathetic to your plight, due to the young age of the cabinet. Hope this is of some if not limited use.
