the water just keeps filling on the small setting but it stops on all the other settings.....also i already checked the hose that goes to the pressure switch and it's fine.

I would advise replacing the fill switch then any of the three settings could be out of calibration making the switch need replacing

When you reassembled the case you have pinched the clear tube that goes to the water pressure switch aginst the case and back panel, lift up the console remove the case clips and make sure that the pressure hose comes up through the curve part in the case if pinched off the pressure switch will not satisfy

Kenmore top load washer 29822800 - washer-selector is set on one rinse- when machine starts the agitator starts immediately as water fills - then when machine stops after spin cycle in off position water...

if you are saying that the washer finishes the load of clothes and timer goes to off and water is filling the tub after this then you have a bad water valve on the back of the washer.disconnect the water lines and change out the valve

WATER FILLS WONT SHUT OFF

The pressure swith (load size) is what controls that chang that. A small hose runs from the bottom of your tub and as the water fills a measerd amount of water fills that tube and pressure build up in their operates that switch and activates the timer to stop filling and start agitating.

My kenmore 70 series washer filled up with water and then stopped. It will not drain or do anything. Is there a way to troubleshoot or do you know what I need to change.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If the washer does nothing after filling, I'd try it on a different cycle.

If it works on another cycle, the problem points to the timer itself.

If you can hear the motor trying to run but the washer will neither agitate nor spin, the problem points initially to a Motor Coupler.

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission. It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts. Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes. The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.

The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump. This is likely why the machine drains.

If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

Kenmore Washer hums during spin cycle

Either the bearings are frozen, or motor is weakening and has hard turning belt and tub/agitiator

The washer (Kenmore Top Loader Model# 24642300)

It most likely is the coupler. It is located between the motor and the transmission. It is an easy repair and only costs around 20 dollars. To change it out simply unplug the washer and tip it back so you can work under it. The first thing you will see is the pump. Take off the two clamps with a flat head screw driver and move it to the side. Do not take off the hoses unless you want water everywhere. Next you will see the motor. The motor is held up by two clamps. The clamps have 2 screws in each one. Remove the screws and with your flat head pop off the clamps. Make sure you hold the motor cause when you take off that first clamp the motor will drop. The motor coupling will come off with it. Put your new one on, (it only goes on one way) and put everything back together again. You will be up and running good as new in no time again. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know if this was helpful. Good luck and glad to help.

set the load size to small, fill with water.

now after it fills with water do you hear anything? motor noise?

If you hear motor noise, it probably has a broken motor coupler.

if it doesnt do anything I would look at the lid switch and activator, the lid has to close and the switch has to know it closed. did the tab on the lid break off?
