Question about Proscan PS60690 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I have sound but no picture!

I recently acquired a PS60690 and the screen no longer works. I turn it on and there is sound, but no picture at all. I'm trying to figure out if it's the picture tubes or something else.

Usually a loss of picture problem on this set is caused by parts on the circuit board failing. Most often a repairman will find the problem around regulator in power supply or around main output transistor in horizontal circuit. Either way, solder work and test equip. are required.

If the TV's are noted for bad caps, and the description of the error makes that possible, the only fix is to remove all bad capacitors from the boards and replace them with new ones. The bad ones are easy to spot because they usually are either bulged at the top or have goop running out of them, or both.

No volume

On the back of your set there are 2 switches that tell the tv whether you are using the internal speakers or the external speakers.
Make sure the switches are set to internal so the speakers in the TV receive the sound signals. If they're set to internal maybe the internal speakers are bad. Set the switches to external and hook up external speakers to the speaker terminals on the back of the TV. If neither setup works then it sounds like an output transistor or related parts.

No picture just sound

Your projection tubes are messed up. It's a very expensive fix, just get a working TV off craigslist with a smashed screen and reuse your screen itself (usually 100-200$) or just toss the TV and upgrade to an LCD

Tv won't turn on

Usually this problem is caused by part failure on circuit board. Most often in power supply or deflection circuit. You will need test equip. and soldering/desoldering tools to fix this set. Most repair services charge 275.00-475.00 to do this repair on a PS60690. Crate is removable by removing rear cover, disconnecting spk. plugs and keyboard plug. Loosen two screws and whole thing slides out. This can save you service call fee.
