Question about Celestron NexStar 11 GPS (660 x 279mm) Telescope

Celestron nexstar 11" gps scope

Bought this scope in May of 2002, has always worked like a charm, last night I set it up for the first time this year. it wasn't quite dark yet but turned it on and pressed gps align and it started leveling itself and slewing towards north. once it got to north it emediately started slewing for the first alignment star [Cappella] couldn't see the star yet to align in the telrad before centering in eyepiece so I was satisfied and turned it off to wait until dark. when it got dark I proceeded turning it on, pressing on gps alignment it before it gets to north it stops in its track. I tried several times and all attempts kept stopping for before it got to north to even begin slewing to alignment star.. any ideas as far as trouble shooting this? thanks for any feedback....... chuck

Be sure that the Azimuth Axis is Lock, you migth want to try and move the telescope in the Azimuth to make sure it is it is locked. Be carful not to force it. I have seen on some post where the locking part of the Azimuth somtimes breaks. and the Azimuth Axis will just spin freely Locked down or not.

Hi, Could you please tell me where I might be able to get my Celestron Nexstar 11 GPS Telescope repaired? The corrector plate needs to be replaced. Is there anyone that could help with this? Regards,...

The scope will need to be returned to Celestron. The Corrector plate must be matched to the rest of the optics inside the tube. This is an EXPENSIVE repair ! Call Celestron here:

I bought a used nexstar 130 Gt. The hand controller lights up and will move the scope, but will not display any information . Can this be fixed or do I have to get a new one? Thanks Lenny

First do a RESET on the hand controller --- also the b. Some of these scopes have a brightest adjustment.===rightness and contrast may be set too high.

The problem will be navigating the menu tree without seeing anything-- the menu tree is shown in the manual try to get to the reset by "touch". or to the contrast by touch.

Contact Celestron here is you continue to have issues with this:

Celestron Nexstar 114gt telescope, hand controller lights up only

Do you have a fresh set of batteries in the scope? Better to use an outside 12 volt power pack with the Celestron 12 volt "cigarette" lighter cable.

This can be three things:

Low power

Bad cable from hand controller to scope.

Or a broken hand controller

Try fresh batteries first.

NexStar 130SLT won't keep time when powered off. Is there an upgrade?

No, most scopes do not have built in GPS or a built in clock. It's normal to have to set, TIME, and DATE in the hand controller.

My Meade LX90 has a built in clock, it's an exception to the general rule. Most GPS computer GOTO scopes do not keep time-- you must wait a few minutes until the GPS acquires enough satellites to get the correct time, date, and location.

I have a CPC11GPS telescope that was working the last time I used it, which was 6 months ago. It is in NEW NEW condition. I pulled it out last night, turned it on, allowed the system to align itself using...

The clutch is not engaging in RA. Maybe the gears are not actually meshing together? A loose worm gear?

You can open it up and look and see if anything obvious is loose. Otherwise it's a trip back to Celestron.

Set up

The finder scope may not be aligned properly with the mn telescope. In the daytime, try setting the main scope on a distant object such as a steeple or chimney in the distance then align the finder scope to point to the same object. Then at night, look at the some bright star or planet and fine-tune the finder scope's adjustment screws so the images are aligned between the two scopes.

2-star alignment

I also have an 8i, but decided not to upgrade the controls yet. I've had my scope for about four years. I have experienced the same problem and am not sure what what causes it. Some nights, the scope tracks alignment all night, other times it does not. When the later occurs, the only thing that helps is to repeat the alignment picking new targets. One night, I had to repeat alignment 3-4 times. Also, I highly recommend a book by Michael Swanson, "The Nexstar User's Guide". It's an easy read, very specific and keeps the novice in mind. It should be included with every Nexstar sold. Go online to: http://www.Nexstarsite.com. Hope this helps. John

The screws should be short enough not to stop the primary's travel, but pull them out and try it again. Good luck! George.
