SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

The best thing to do may be to format the card. This not only wipes all photos from the card, but cleans up the directory. Formatting should be done every time you finish transferring pictures to your computer.

You don't say whether this is a new card or one you used before. I'm going to assume this is a new card (otherwise, it means the card has become corrupted or there is a camera fault).

You say it is an SD card, but don't mention the capacity. "SD" cards larger than about 2GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

I expect your camera just won't work with this kind of card. It is often difficult to find out the maximum capacity memory card a camera will use, as today's cards are much larger that those available when the manual for the camera was written, but as a rule, if the memory size is larger than the largest size mentioned in the manual, you should expect trouble. You can always carry several smaller cards if you really need more space.

to fix the problem, use a memory card reader to read your card, if it work fine with the memory card reader, format it (erase all data ). and plug it again to your camera if the problem still not solved you must use another model of memory card. if you are a trained technician, you can diassemble the camera and check the memory card slot, if you are a user, you should contact your dealer. thanks.

I cant transfer pictures from my nikon coolpix s203 digital camera to my pc. i installed the transfer program that came with it, but it still wont transfer them, is there something i can do to fix this?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

When im trying to take a picture on my Nikon COOLPIX camera or trying to delete a picture it gives me the message that my card is write protected...

Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera.
But if you have already tried this, see this link for additional things that you can try.

Nikon coolpix s51 digtal camera memory card says can not be used?

hi..
There is a tab on the memory card so you will you need to remove it from the camera and change the position of this tab to "unlock" it.
You need to unlock the card itself. Take it out and look for a tab on the left. It should be pushed up.

thank u
