The plasma display suddenly went from excellent color to diminished and unstable shades of gray & black across the entire screen. When powered off and then back on, the entire screen is black, but gradually starts to show some of the picture in shades of gray & black.
Any suggestions on what the symptons indicate, what to anticipate from a repair technician and any recommended repair facilities in the Atlanta, Ga. area ? ....... Thanks

Check the Vs & VA voltages to the panel. If found abnormal, try to adjust it to specified value. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Adjustment procedure to this voltage is similar to all plasma displays, and guidance to one brand can be taken as reference. Adjustments to this voltage is given by one among the posts. Details too are given with illustrations. The given details are for panasonic plama TV. Refer it. You's get an idea about this voltage adjustment. If you can't adjust it to proper value as suggested, the main power supply board need replacement. Even after replaced it with a new board, this adjustment should be done again. This is a crucial adjustment to all plasma TVs.
Hello kilmertwo, my names Dave! What your TV did is called the POP OF Death! In order to repair the TV you will need to replace the Y sustain & the Z sustain board also! The loud POP noise you heard came from the Z sustain! If you take this TV to a local repair shop the cost of the repair is going to be around 800.00 big one! 450.00 parts and 350.00 labor! Not only will you be spending that amount but this is a common problem with this TV! So you take the chance of this happening again! What I'm trying to do is to save you from throwing good money after bad! Do not repair the TV! You can for the same amount of money buy a totally brand new TV! I would suggest that you buy a Panasonic! Trust me!
