Flip the unit ove on the bottom you will see a two covers. the one cloest to you headphone jacks is the one you want. use a small philps screwdriver to remove the cover.
there is one 512MB 400MHz DDR2-400, PC2-3200, 200p SODIMM, 1.8v, CL=3, 64Megx64 memory unit from the factory if you are just upgrading to 1GB the buy a 2nd SODIMM and put it in the slot that is hiden behind the cover and reinstall the cover and restart the unit and enjoy. BUT if you want more than 1 GB I would pull the 612 and install 1 2gb or 2 1gb SODIMM uints.
Limit of 2GB on a N-10

Emachines e370 Can you increase the RAM to 3 or 4 GB by replacing with 2GB DDR3 ram modules from 2 total (2/1GB modules without damaging laptop.

If you run a check with mr memory, that will tell you the maximum RAM useable. You may have to instal a 64bit version of your OS otherwise anymore RAM will be unused.

As soon as i go online after about 1 hour my emachine w340ua starts to overheat and disconnects itself from the internet and so far all that helps is turning it off and setting it by a fan so it cools...

Using the internet uses a lot of power. The computer has to work harder than normal so the fans are not cooling as much as they would under normal use. My ASUS computer heats up the harder it has to work. Maybe your emachine although able to connect is not really designed for the amount of usage you do. An hour is a long time for some devices. Small computers like the ASUS laptop can only tolerate about an hour and then they heat up so much you can hardly keep them on your lap. You may risk burning something out. I would limit your time with this device and only use a stronger system for the longer time on the internet.

Gateway Laptop W340UA black screen

  1. take out the memory
  2. turn on again without memory (you should hear long beep sound) and turn it off again
  3. clean memory using eraser (better if you have spare memory to replace it)
  4. now try again
  5. if not working, checks whether the work properly? and clean the fan from dust. and try to switch it on again.
I look forward to hearing further.

What controls memory capacity?

The maximum amount any computer will work on is 4 gigabytes. You may see some specialty models with 6GB but that is a waste of money because programmers write programs for a maximum of 4GB as that is the industry standard. The maximum memory capacity depends on the motherboard setup. For instance, any desktop can take up to 4 GB but some smaller laptops cannot. It depends on the company selling the product as they decide which motherboard to install. Netbooks, 7" to 10" screen can only hold 2 GB, while all 15" and above laptops can hold 4 GB. So basically 4GB max or less. Obviously 4GB will run faster than anything less. Memory is fairly cheap so always go with the 4GB. Second part of your question, manufacturers decide which motherboards go into which computers and the larger dealers like Dell, HP, Compaq, etc will always offer 4 GB. Inexpensive computers like Emachine cut cost by not spending the money for the best motherboards so they may only hold 2GB. Hope this answers your questions.

- I had the exact same problem with a eMachines W340UA and other machines. I'm not sure what this does, but I resolved it by booting into Safe-Mode. Upon successful boot into Safe-Mode (without Networking), I restarted the computer in the normal mode and it for then after worked. Please try this; though I can make no logical statement as to what occurrs or what gets fixed, I have had this method work on several machines.

Fire up the machine, after BIOS postings, continually press the F8 key. From the list of startup options, choose "Safe Mode (Without Networking). It should boot up in this mode.
After the successful boot, restart the machine and allow it to boot in normal mode. If all goes as it has for me, you will successfuly boot into Windows.
P.S: If anyone knows where the coin battery is on an eMachines w340ua laptop, and hot to get to it, please let me know. Thank you and I hope this helps!
