Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop

Windows wont start!

I have a Dell Dimension E310. I accidently downloaded a virus. At first it only changed my search engine settings to where it displayed porn sites. A pop up would say that my computer was at risk and I needed to download anti-virus software. I currently have Avast Anti-virus programed onto my computer so I knew that this was probably a trick. As well as the spelling and grammar being too bad for it to be an actual warning. I restarted my computer to attempt to do a system restore and now it displays the select safe mode screen and after that, displays a blue screen with the following message:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer, If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

****STOP: 0x000000ED (0x81353B30, 0x000000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

I've tried to use Ctrl + F11 for system restore, but it freezes up. Is there anything I can do short of taking it to a computer repair center? Thank you in advance.

If you have no important data on that disk, I would remove the risk from that virus by booting from the XP CD, wiping the hard drive and starting over. It may be faster in the long run.

I have always been an advovate of putting ones data on a different hard drive or partition than windows. That way when you have a problem like this you only have to wipe the windows partition.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME = this message means you need to format the partition because they virus cause you OS faulty to load systems file in partition hard disk.

I suggest you to backup all data inside hard disk to other hard disk
before do format and partition

I have a Dell Dimension E310. The computer does not start now, and I have the following message: Windows could not start because the following is missing or corrupt...

This is a problem with the registry. It could have been caused by a virus. Do you have Windows XP or Vista? Here's a link from Microsoft. It is possible to get the system back.

System password error

This password thats its asking for is upon first boot I assume before windows even trys to load. If thats the case theres a jumper on the motherboard that lets you reset the bios/cmos killing out the password and setting it back to factory stardards. You will have to goto dell.com and hit up there support section for a manual on were exactly its located but this will fix your password issue.

Dell E310 Dimension that won't go on!

Boot the computer into safe mode. Run full-system anti-virus scans to ensure that the system is virus free and to remove any infections that may be present. Reboot system.

Instructions for booting into safe mode:
1) Start system
2) As system is starting, press F8 key
3) Boot menu will come up asking how you want to boot - choose Safe Mode and press ENTER
4) Your computer will start with limited services, no internet connection, etc. This will allow you to check the system and scan for viruses without interference from non-essential services.

Let us know how it turns out.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
