Question about Dell Latitude D505 Notebook

Laptop won't keep Power

When I press the power button on my Dell Latitutde D505 the three green lights frash [ 9 ] [ A ] [ I ] however the [ 9 ] and [ l ] swith off and the [ A ] light flashes about ten seconds and then the system powers off. Nothing shows on the LCD screen as it doesn't appear the laptop is staying on long enough to even boot up.

I contacted Dell support. They said the blinking "A" light is an indicator of a memory problem (though they first suggested a faulty system board). I purchased a brand new memory, swapped it with the old, and the problem still exists. (Only 1 memory slot is being used.) I KNOW it's not the power cord as the adapter shows a solid, green charge. I also tried to dock the laptop but the same problem exists.

Any suggestions would be grateful. Also, what does the [ A ] LED light mean? I can't find any documentation on it.

I have exactly the same problem. For me it happened the following way:

I have used it normally for about five hours. Then suddenly my laptop restarted itself and during bootup it said there is no bootable disk. I turned it off, since then I get only flashing[A]

Hi, I have the same problem, replaced motherboard and chip and still have the problem, it may well turn out to be memory ( which I should have changed first ) :)

I just gave a last try after a few hours of rest. I turned on the laptop and that worked! I booted Windows which resulted in freeze or restart 3 times.

So It looks like a memory problem, maybe a contact problem.

Actually the Windows freeze and restart happened after login when user applications (antivirus, Skype etc.) were being loaded

It sounds like Dell support may have been right when they told you the motherboard had failed.

My Dell D505 Latitude will not power up. The 3 green lights flash for less than a second and then it switches off. It was working fine until a few days ago. Any ideas of how to fix this as all my work is...

Sounds like ether a blown power supply. That happens when the laptop battery has alittle juice left.

Try to take out the battery from the bottom and plug the laptop in the wall. If the laptop powers up you battery needs to be replaced. If it doesn't power up, you need to replace the power supply.

Good Luck,

My dell d505 latitude laptop has the dreaded

Sounds like your battery is dead. They go bad in laptops and need to be replaced in a couple years.

1) Unplug your battery and power laptop on with just AC adaptor. If laptop runs normal then you need to replace battery.

2) If it doesnt turn on at all then your motherboard may have a problem. The power supply is integrated on MB on most/all laptops.

2) if you need a motherboard replacement, try

Dell latitude d505 will not power on

the dim on and off indicates
the ac power jack or adapter may be bad
its charging battery then not
take out the battery
check the pin in the laptop to see if it moves
or the end of the adapter could be bad
even if the green light is on
try not to wiggle to get to work, or you can break connection

No Opening - The computer center control cover (A) continals to flash for 10 Seconds only

Make sure your power cord is pluged in and the indicator light in front is yellow (saying that it is "charging") - these cords are known to go bad quite often.

Your computer is saying there is not enough battery, or power to keep it from booting all the way up.
