My hardisck no deteck in my PC

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

I have a maxtor one touch 4 1 TB and I used it for a PC w windows 7. Now I have an apple computer and want to format it so I can read both pc and mac

FAT 32 format can be accessed by both pc and mac. the drive should be already Fat 32 formatted, but still, the files stored from the mac will not be able to be read by windows and visa versa in most situations.

you will run into trouble if you have to fat 32 format it yourself, as windows will only format up to 32 gigs of it in fat 32- you will have to make multiple 32 gig partitions to use the entire drive, and would be unable to keep more than 32 gigs of info per backup or folder, bacause of all the seperate partitions.

Upgrading from 250 gig hard to a 500 gig hard and says mismatch. my first hard drive is dead

hi pete,

changing the bios will do the trick, find one that is most compatible with aspire 1640 for a 500gig hd, once you have this replaced, it will work.

Unabl to foamat seagate 250 gb st325041as hard disk using vista or xp os

use a windows 98 floppy statup disk and type fdisk enter yes yes again then delete and formatted partitions created new partition do not exceed 34 gigs for fat part. reboot type format c: after format is complete use xp disk and delete the partition you just created and let windows take over
if you cannot access the drive at all with fdisk you may need to repair the mbr on the hard drive if this is the problem write back

Bigger hard drive

I'm not sure if the motherboard supports SATA drives, so your best bet is getting any IDE (ATA) hard drive. It's up to you which kind you want. I've always been partial to Western Digital and Seagate.

If you are running Windows XP then you shouldn't have a problem with having a larger hard drive, I know Windows 2000 had some issues with them that required registery editing.

Need to replace Toshiba Satellite 4090 XDVD hard drive

Any Techie should be able to do this for you, or you can try it yourself IF YOU PROCEED CAREFULLY. The small plastic trim strip just above the left and right click bars must be popped out and the keyboard removed to access the hard drive. I bought a 60 gig Seagate to upgrade the 6 gig that was in it and did it myself in about an hour. You will need to have the restore disc to reinstall all the drivers and the DVD player software. Mine is also upgraded to Win XP Pro. Runs a tad slow as RAM is maxed out at 180 megs but operates fine otherwise and plays movies without skipping. Hope this helps.

How to transfer files and programs etc..using Seagate 500 GB..

Hi,

I understand that you are trying to move data from your computer to an external hard drive.

You can just copy and paste the files like Music, Pictures to the external movies when it is connected to the computer. The hard drive owuld be listed as an removable storage device icon in the My Computer window if you are using windows XP.

However, we cannot just copy and paste the programs in the hard drive. You need the installation files to be copied to the external hard drive, if you want them to eb backed up.
