Why my uniden has no squech or sound but transmits

Although this question is an old one, I\'ll do my best to answer it in case someone else has the same issue. This is condition is nearly always caused by a cabling problem usually where the antenna connects to the radio. Carefully inspect the connector for obvious damage, clean the connection with silicone spray (safe for plastics) and reconnect the antenna several times. While you\'re at it, check and clean the power connections as well, both at the radio and the battery/power panel connections as the problem could be as simple as a poor ground.

This problem could also be the fault of a broken wire/poor solder joint in the PL-259 plug itself. If you\'re handy with a soldering iron, take the connector apart and make sure the centre pin connection is securely soldered as well as the ground braid soldered securely to the case of the PL-259. I\'ve included the link to Uniden\'s marine electronics owner\'s manuals and the support page. I\'ve had pretty good luck in the past when I\'ve had to contact Uniden.

Hope this helps.

Wilson roof mount coax is broken at radio connector end

I'm going to assume you've got a PL-259 connector on the end of the coax cable - they look like this:

They are designed to screw onto the radio's RF / Antenna jack. The end shown is standard, the other end - that the cable enters, requires an insert that matches the coaxial cable outside diameter.

There are two versions of the connector; solder-less and soldered. The best connection is provided by the soldered type. It is superior both electrically and mechanically to to the solder-less version. If you lack soldering skills, patience and / or the tools and supplies to solder the connector, the solder-less version will be the way to go.

There are two types of solder-less types, a crimp and non-crimp type. They look like these:

The "Non-crimp" solderless PL-259 from Radio Shack - about $6.

A crimp type PL-259 connector - $2 and up at various radio & electronics stores.

Since this end of the antenna is at the radio and presumable protected from the elements, it may prove to work very well for you. Each of these connectors requires knowing the type cable (RG-58 and RG-8 are very popular types - but there are many other 50 ohm coax cables) or outside diameter and selecting the one that fits correctly, along with a crimping tool (and dies) for this particular connector size. You may get by with a standard pair of pliers, but the connection is not as good as would be obtained with the crimp tool. Generally, you would provide a crimp around the ferrule at the cable end for the braided conductor and another at the very tip of the connector for center conductor.

Each connector will include very specific cable preparation steps for the removal of insulating jacket, braid and dielectric material to provide proper fit of the connector to the cable. If it were a "standard", I would have included it.

Check this link for Youtube video the show how to install the various types of PL-259 connectors on cables.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I need diagram on how to install or wire my CB IN MY CAR. The CB is already connected to a 400 watt linier that is mounted to the bottom. Mounting, installing not an issue. Proper wire and antenna hook up...

The CB radio its self just needs to be connected to power, and the antenna connected. You need to use at least RG-8x coax or you risk it frying from the extra power from the amp.

The radio needs to be attached to the amps input, then the antenna needs to go to the output of the amp.

Then most importantly the antenna must be tuned to lowest SWR. It must not exceed 1.5 and even that is pushing it.

My Sharp copier AR 5316 does not work with Vista business service pack-1. It does not work when print option given for current page and printer sleeps and does not take the printing order. One has to...

have you installed the PROPER Vista driver? Or just used the install disk that may have come with your machine years ago, and may not be designed for "Vista". Go to sharp and download the proper driver, or at least see if it is supported.

I read through the specifications of this antenna and you were right in posting "no ground plane, no tune". Still, there are only three (3) possible reasons why the SWR would be high:
1. Cable/connector - loose, cold solder or improperly terminated;
2. Antenna - tuning and/or ground plane; and
3. Radio has been highly modified or defect in final stage.

Corrective procedures would call for:
a. verify that the coaxial cable is properly connected to the PL-259 connectors. You may need to use a continuity tester (or a DVM) to do so. Pls pay particular attention to the braided shield/grounding, they should be real tight/soldered good to the casing of the connector. Of course the cable should be 50ohms RG8 or 58 with thick shielding.
b. as stated the antenna doesn't need to be tuned then there's nothing that can be done since there is no provision for such, however, even if the specs says no ground plane needed, there is something you can try. Install a ground plane. this could be done by attaching 2 lengths of big gauge ordinary wire to both sides of the metal bracket of the antenna. They have to be 8' 7" ~ 9' long. It may help you further to install a grounding strap again from the metal bracket to any grounded metal portions of your house such as the plumbing.
c. radio problem would be unlikely if it is still stock.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

snickers1 hi, if I googled in the right scanner, yours is an older one with an antenna that screws into a stud inside the top cover. Here is a link to a site that has a lot of the older stuff covered. He's been selling CB stuff for over 30 years. You'll have to look at your scanner inside to see if it's male or female thread. I hope this helps with what your looking for,, Mechanic
