No power up A135-S2266

My wifes laptop was working fine and just out of warranty when it locked up (uploading Ipod songs) and now it will not even power up. Tried to boot from CD but it never appears to even get that far. The fan spins but stops after a few seconds and I can hear the HD spinning. The power light comes on but nothing else. Battery is OK and the output of the power supply measures OK. I also tried the power supply from my A85 which is the same supply but no luck. I have also tried removing one memory chip hoping a chip (2 512k's installed) went bad but no luck there either. I have tried to list everything I have already tried but need some direction or suggestion to go with this. Thank You, Ken

If the machine booted up I would agree with you on the graphics card and/or display going south but it does not even power up other that the the fan spins but it stops after a few seconds and I can hear the HD spinning. I have since found several other postings on a Toshiba forum with the same model that have the exact same problem after plugging in a USB device. In all the cases it has been the motherboard that fried unfortunately! While it still isn't a definite answer it is the best I have so far. Thank you for trying triplesixes.

The laptop had a virus and (because of that) was very slow. I scanned the laptop with AVG and when it was through with the areas I wanted it scan I stopped it and at that point it supposed to clean all the infected files. It started this but stopped at 0% and hang. I switched it off by holding down the switch. on powering it back on it failed to show anything on the screen, I waited for a minute or two but nothing was showing. So I removed the battery and put it back and powered it up again and after several turn/offs it started. I ran the antivirus again and this time when I switched it off, it refused to start. I removed the hdd and put in another lap top so that work can continue.

On switching it on, the power led goes orange and remains like that. the hard disk led only goes orange for about three seconds and goes blank. No other changes are observed.

Will be very grateful when a solution surfaces.

Maybe your graphics card and/or display went bad. If I were both of you, I would check that out and see. if so, then you would have to buy a new computer screen for your computers.

Need Bios Password

I can't find a decent manual for your laptop but there will be 2 pins on the motherboard that will say BIOS Clear. Short these 2 pins and turn the computer on. This is the only way to bypass the BIOS password. This operation will clear the BIOS and reset to factory defaults. After the BIOS is cleared, turn the computer off and take off the short.

Is the battery for the A135-S2266 the same as for the A135-S4527?

The battery may have a higher capacity. I suggest you contact the supplier to check the differences and whether it will fit your model laptop.

No power at all even if i press the power button

Most likely the only thing wrong is the power button. Try to either replace the power button board or use a wire to short circuit the two points under the push button to turn the machine on.

My laptop will not boot up.

Try to put your harddrive, check on the screen if it can detect the harddrive. If it says there that ntldr is missing or if it is looking for an operating system try to install a new operating system. It like reformatting your PC.
