GRINDING NOISE on our LG WM-2277HW Front Load Washer

Very LOUD grinding noise over the past 2-3 weeks. after pondering this noise cause we could barely hear our movie I realized it sounded like a bearing and was actually motivated to finally see what was wrong with it. I could see ample rusty lookin water below the washer as I moved it out to gain access to the rear panel. After cleaning the entire floor I removed the rear panel to expose the rear of the drum and could see again rusty water stains coming from the center of the drum. This somewhat confirmed my assumption of the bearing going out. I continued to get happy being allowed to dismantle my wifes washer and basically stripped everything including the stator assembly, the rotor assembly and so on down to just the sealed bearing at the rear of the outer tub assembly. I'm very handy and for the life of me couldn't figure how to remove the existing bearings to change them and the seal (I only knew there was a seal cause of your very helpful webpage). It was late, I was tired and I didn't have the energy to continue to pull apart the entire machine ( and really don't want to unless I have to). I can see that bearings appear to be pressed onto the spider but called it a night and was excited that we found a website that could actually help the 'at home do it yourselfer'. So now I believe that the bearings are bad but now I'm not quite sure cause of other stuff I found on your website. Thank you in advance for your help and hope to hear from you soon. I'm assuming then that i must dismantle the entire tub assembly both inner and outer to reveal the bearings. Also do the bearings press on and off of the spider,as they sell them seperate? or will the entire tub (wich one?) need to be replaced? the rust i'm almost sure came from the bearing area as this is where the trail of stains end. I think the seal went bad and this rusted the bearings.

Here is the disassembly guide for your washing machine, have a look.

Here is complete service manual.

click here and go to contact to order replacement parts

Your LG washer has a position sensor regulating cycle spinning, when it is faulty you will also have noise when spinning, but in this case you usually get an additional error message on display.
Check here, this is solution to position sensor problem

Check bearing first, and also find out where the rust came from.

Yes, you have to start from the outer casing, refer to service manual pages 40-41 and 38-39.
If the bearings are cause for the rust then you can change just the bearings.
Most likely the rust is due to some problem with the tub check eventual rust on screws etc.
Before disassembling the tub completely, check that there is no foreign object stuck between the tub and the drum, (see page 38 on service manual), this is common cause for rust coming out from the tub.

Its central shaft bearing must be inspected and probably replaced.

Just had my LG WM 2277 HW bearing replaced. Technician was here 5 hours. Full disassemble to remove tub and replace outer tub. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty. $502.00. parts were Rear tub including rubber drains and rear tub damper, spin basket, bellow w/ spring clamp. LG did not recommend tub gasket replacement, but I would recommend it since the old one stretches out when you remove it. I had the same rusty water spot on the rear of the bearing area. Good luck

SOURCE: LG WM-2277HW Front Load Washer not working with ce showing

CE is an error stating that you have a problem with you board or possibly the stator on your unit. Either way your going to need service. You can ohm out your stator to see if it is the problem.
Check the back harness, maybe it has come loose, remove the back panel and it is the blue connector.

SOURCE: LG WM-2277HW Front Load Washer. I am trying to remove the big nut

the best way is to have some one hold the drum from the front and turn the nut. it can also be done sometimes by turning the drum in the opposite direction and then pop it with the wrench. not the best way but it works.or you can hold the stator assy with one hand and tap your wrench with a hammer.i hope thia was helpful, would like to here how things worked out.

It sounds as if there is a problem with the tub bearing of the machine, replacing this is a job left to professionals.

Washer say on screen LE and will not turn.. Also when manually turn the turn hear grinding noise too.

Grinding noises are bad. If you are lucky, you got an item (like an underwire support from a bra) between the inner and outer tub, which may be removed through the heater or drain openings in the tub. If you are un-lucky, your rear tub seal failed, causing the rear bearing to fail, or the shaft broke loose from the 3 arms of the spider which drives the inner wash tub. Either of those things is $$$ and a lot of work to repair, involving removal of the outer drum, seperation of the outer drum halves, and repair. (translation: minimum 2 hours labor if you've ever done one before)

Ok my LG front loading washer agitates but when it comes to spin it makes a very irritating high grinding noise and does not spin. There is no error displayed but that may be because I stop it before it...

I have a similar problem. The washer was showing error code UE, but would tumble when empty in test mode, but would not spin and made a grinding noise. The bolt that attaches the rotor to the motor was loose and the rotor was spinning on the spindle that rotates the drum. I tightened the bolt, and it spins when empty, but still gives a UE error code when full. Remove the rear cover and check the tightness of the center bolt.

Loud bearing noise on spin

It sounds like the bearings may have collapsed. this can be caused by overloading or using excessive soap powder can also cause early failure of the seal and then the bearings fail

Get a new washer. Perhaps another brand.

The fix for me was to get a new washer. Had same issue with loud spin cycle. Tried researching while wife was continuing use of washer. Then the LE message appeared.

Took back apart and found that water had leaked and caused a boat load of damage. Bearings shot, seal leaks, drum leaks, Stator damaged. Same issue as 'jammy64' stated.

Cost to repair wasn't worth it. Going to get an
Electrolux model.

Oe code

I had the same problem. First the grinding noise during the rinse cycle and then after four weeks the OE code. LG had a local repair service come out and he determined that the drain pump was dead and ordered a replacement. Still waiting on part after only 3 days.
