Question about Baby Gear

Infant car seat

I have a 2006 infant car seat designed by Phil and Teds. I purchased it in England. I need to use it again, but can't find the instructions. The car seat straps in using the car seat belt, not the clips not in US cars. I believe this type of car seat is still typical in Europe. My recollection is that the lap belt goes over the base of the seat where the baby feet are, and then the shoulder straps go behind the seat (head). I've done this and the seat does not seem secure. Any thoughts? Many thanks. Emily.

Hi,

Although I do not know this seat, if it is a UK model you should have blue stickers located where the belt will go. Typically the European seats do fit as you suggest, lap belt over the childs legs (pull firm at that point) then the should belt over and behind babys head (pull firm again at that point). Bear in mind that the seat does not have to be rock solid, but the weight of baby will make this feel more secure and remember that if there should be any kind of impact, the seat belt is designed to lock off, hence how this works.

I hope this helps.

    Hi,

Althought I don't have specific experience of this particular carseat, yes, this is exactly how carseats are fitting with a three-point seatbelt here in the UK.

    I hope this helps.

I just hired a brand new Primo Viaggio car capsule yesterday and after adjusting it to the most lying-down position for a newborn, it seems that the baby's head will be bent forward when in the seat, I...

With the Primo Viaggio car seat, newborns and young infants should be at a 45 degree angle to prevent head slump and best distribute crash forces in case of accidents. Once infants had gained head and neck support a 45 degree angle is no longer needed.

The other type of car seat you are referring to is a car seat bed. They generally only used by very ill or very premature infants. With certain infant seats now being able to accommodate ever smaller infants they are a shrinking market and are not generally available for public purchase or use.

Maxi coso infant car seat

I don't have a link for the manual, but I am a Dad. Most the time they use the lap belt to run acrossed the center of the car seat. If your child is an infant, then they should be facing backward. Sometimes the car seat will come with a base that the infant seat locks into. You use the seat belt on the base for this kind and then lacth the infant seat into it.

Most of the time, police and fire stations will offer assistance with installing car seats properly, in case I didn't help.

Good luck!
