Thank you. However, I cannot do a screenshot at the present time as the problem is on a friend's computer - Word 2003 - who lives 20 miles away. I am trying to sort it for her.

    To take a screenshot

open the program and press the print screen button (next to scrool lock and pause break)

    then start mspaint

start -> run -> (type in) Mspaint -> hold down ctrl and press v

you should now have the screenshot there. Save it as a JPG file and send it here.

I probably could sort this problem with remote assistance but since its not on your pc I don't know..

  • Ekse May 19, 2008

Basicly if she resets all the settings in the program. But the screenshot would help to know what the problem really is.

Autotext drop down list in Microsoft Word Headers and Footers have gone - how do I retrieve them?

Hi aoliver463

Try this:
Bring the Header & Footer Toolbar on the screen by clicking on the Header & Footer from the View Menu
On the Tool Bar you see an arrow just near the word Close. Click on that arrow.
Click on the arrow next to the Add or Remove buttons
Click on the arrow next to the Header & Footer
Click on the Reset Toolbar in the PopUp menu
Click on Ok.
Your Header & Footer Toolbar wll be brought back to the original state.
Hope this will work for you.

You can customize the appearance of the Office Fluent Ribbon in Microsoft Office Access 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, or Microsoft Office Word 2007 by selecting one of the available color schemes.

example
Word
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Buttondefault.aspx?assetid=za100771021033, and then click Word Options at the bottom of the window.
  2. Click Popular, and then click the Color scheme that you want.

Hi there.
First off, ensure the developer tab is showing by going to the file (round pearl menu button in the top left corner) and selecting the button on the bottom of the menu called "Word Options". This will bring you up a screen as below >>>>>>>>

Now, ensure the developer toolbar is enabled with a tick as in the picture.
Go to the document and find the text that you can't modify
Ensure the developer toolbar is displayed and click in the document where the text is and then press the Group button in the toolbar and press the Ungroup option as below >>>>>

That is it - you should now be able to modify the text without any problems.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Toolbar/menu/handle disappeared from saved and new documents.

Sounds like you've either gone into Full Screen mode or have turned off your Toolbars and Menu via the Customize command.

Normally pressing ESC will exit the Full Screen Mode. If you can't see the Menu try using the keyboard shortcuts like so. Keep the ALT key held down and press V followed T. Hopefully you should now see the menu and select "Customize..." to turn everything back on again.
