My Kenmore HE3 plug now has 4 wires. Previously I had it connected with 3 wires because I was in an older house and the 220 outlet had only 3 slots. Now I need a 3 wire connection again. How do I connect the 3 wires to the 3 connections plus the ground? Do I not connect a ground?

How do you connect the LG DLEX5101V Dryer to the electrical outlet on the wall if there is no cord to plug in?

There are a couple of types of plugs in homes - and the dryer manufacturer use this excuse to not ship a cord with the dryer - profiting that much more. You'll need to purchase a cord set for your dryer. Assuming you live in the U.S., that means you need a 30 amp 240 volt cord. That's easy enough, but it does get harder.

Most homes have an outlet that has three slots in it - like the one below:
steve_con_39.jpg
A 240 volt, 30 amp, 3 wire dryer plug.

New homes have a safer, 240 volt 30amp 4 wire plug. They look like the one below:
steve_con_40.jpg
A 240 volt, 30 amp, 4 wire dryer plug.

The code states that when a dryer is purchased it should be connected via a 4 wire cord. This means if you have the older, 3 wire outlet - it will have to be changed along with the entire length of cable between the electrical panel and the outlet (the new outlet needs a 4 wire cable - the older plug was supplied by a 3 wire cable).

Those are the rules. Many people opt to purchase the older 3 wire cords so that they can connect directly to the 3 wire outlet already installed in their home. As an electrician, I have to caution you on doing that. It is a violation of the electrical code as it has been identified as an unsafe condition. The code hopes to rectify this by slowly requiring new dryers to be wired with 4 wire cords and making the homeowner upgrade the old 3 wire outlet to a newer, safer 4 wire outlet. Of course, no one will come to see what you had and if you changed it, etc.

Mose hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. sell these cords for under $20. Make sure you choose a 30 amp dryer cord - and not the similar looking but thicker 50 amp stove or range cord.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply.

Does it matter if use 220 or 115... looks like i have 25 amp in the box with gfi.. need connect the wire to back of the motor.. outside i have the big circular 3 pronged connection to the outlet... do i...

220 VAC is more efficient ... so there is some cost savings in the money department. Volts X amp = watts generally ... there is still a savings because you will actually consume fewer watts at 220 (watts is what you are purchasing form the power company)

Wiring depends ...you going to use 110 or 220? if 110 ... black is hot and goes to L1 ... white is nutral and goes to L1.

If 220 ... black is hot and goes to L1 - white is hot and goes to L2.

Your owner manual has a good picture and description of this.

In the plug ... 110 - neutral should go to the left slot.

Is your breaker 110 or 220 (single pole or double pole - one slot or two slots)

These voltages are not compatable!

I suggest you use this pump at 220.

I need the wiring diagram and plug/receptacle specs for kenmore electric cooktp 42732

I believe that if you look on the name plate for the unit , it says that you will need a 30 amp, 220 volt supply circuit . This would be a two pole , 30 amp breaker , a run of # 10-3 cable with ground, and a junction box at the stove top location to make the splices. If you are going to use a plug connection, then a 30 amp 4 wire dryer outlet will give you the connection you need .

Hello, I have a Kenmore 80 Series. Washer and Dryer. Bought it from someone on Craigslist. How do I hook them up? Is there a manual any where out there?

Connect your hot and cold water pipes to the washer. Place the drain pipe into a sink or direct drain feed to your sewer system. Plug it into outlet. Dryer - plug it into your 220 line outlet. If the plug is not the same as your outlet you can find instructions on lline with pics on how to change a 3 prong plug to a 4 prong plug and so on...:)

3 prong outlet/4 prong plug

If you bought an electric range , it is a 220 volt range with a BIG plug and can only be used in a 220 volt outlet.
If you can plug a small appliance into that outlet then the outlet is only 110 volts and you need an electrician to run a new 220 line!!!!!!
Was the range you are replacing a gas range??? If so that runs on 110 volts like you TV and toaster and every other small appliance in your house!
If you are not sure what you are doing get a professional to help you!
Every year in the United States thousands of people die buy trying to fix the electrical in their home alone!
BEWARE 220 Volts will shock you! BUT USUALLY will kill you if you touch it!
