Eax300se problems with XP

First, open your Task manager and open the "performance tab". There are a lot of built in programs in XP that can peg the CPU to full and this will slow/crash your computer. If any program is eating 100% of your CPU power for a long time, use Google to see how to fix the problem.

Test your RAM: Open the Start Menu and type in mdsched.exe, then press enter. - Then follow the procedure you think is best for your machine.

If your machine is capable via the BIOS, check to see at what temperature the CPU is running. Some processors run hot all the time, but some processors can't take the heat and will crash.

Also, if your computer is not under warranty physically check to see that the CPU fan is moving freely... and the GPU fan as well if your computer has one. Clean any dust and what not off of the blades if it is dirty, or replace if necessary.

If none of that seems to be the issue, remember that XP is considered "End of Life" and a lot of programs will not run on XP any more. Also remember that while some programs might still work, they may still be buggy on XP.

Hi could anyone tell me why my asus x50rl series laptop has stopped reading discs all suggestions would be greatfully recieved as trying to put our wedding pictures disc on my laptop

1) The optical eye that reads the disks is dirty. The laser optical eye is located down in the bottom of the optical drive.
Drive open, use short bursts of air from a can of compressed air for computers.
There are disk cleaners sold also.

2) Windows needs to be slapped around a little. The DVD super multi dual layer drive in the Asus, isn't recognized by Windows anymore. Sort of like it forgot. (Who?)

A) Right-click on My Computer. (Start > My Computer)

B) Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the menu list.

C) Left-click on the Hardware tab

D) Left-click on Device Manager

E) Left-click on the + sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives

F) Right-click on the name of the drive

G) Left-click on Properties

H) Left-click on the Driver tab

I) Left-click on Uninstall

A warning will pop-up, "Warning you are about to uninstall this device" , and so forth.
It's okay. Click on OK.

Close all windows until you are back to the desktop screen.
Restart your computer.

Once Windows has loaded you should see a pop-up, "Found new hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XXXXX DVD R/W drive"

Windows has Thousands of generic drivers. You are just forcing it to match one up. It also has THE driver for that DVD supermulti dual layer optical drive, and since it's the best match, Windows will use it.

Windows just gets Old Timers, what can I say? lol!

I cant find the driver for Galaxy nvidia 8600GT PCI-E 256MB DDR3 1.2ns

1.If is a xfx video card go to their support website: http://www.xfxforce.com . You may have to register the video card with xfx website (open an account there) in order to get customized video card driver.

OR

go to http://www.nvidia.com and pick the download driver link.

for Linux you may have to compile the driver but the package from nvidia does everything.

Out of scn range

Linda,

This simply means that the resolution you have set is beyond the display capabilities of the monitor.

If you can see a visible picture on the monitor, it is likely that you either have the "Generic vga/svga monitor" driver installed or an improper driver.

This can be easily resolved by simply going to the website for your monitor's manufacturer and downloading the right driver for your model of monitor and install it.

If you can't find the website for your Monitor's manufacturer, please post BRand and model info here and I will try to direct you there.

If you DON'T have a viewable display this is how to solve it.

When booting up the pc you'll see POST information flash on the screen or a company logo once this flashes off then push and hold <F8> and you should get a startup screen with several options

The one we want is "Start in Safe mode" select that
Once you have booted up into safe mode, open the display properties screen and change your resolution to something a bit lower (Almost all modern monitors can display 800X600 at a refresh of 75Mhz) so this may be a good place to start. Apply your changes and reboot.

Now you should be able to adjust your display settings to either the maximum displayable setting for your monitor. If you should change the setting and the monitor becomes unviewable (be careful not to push any keys and wait) the screen should change back after 12 seconds unless you confirm the change.

Hope this helps you,
Dave

Picture messed up

Try removing the video card & clean the copper contacts with a couple drops of house hold alcohol on a cotton swab. Use canned air to blow out the AGP slot. Blow out the video card's fan as well.
Re-insert the video card & make sure it is firmly seated in the AGP slot. If you're still having the same trouble when you start up, try another AGP 8x card. You're 6800 may be going bad. My bet is the video card is dusty & not seated 100%.
If you are thinking it might be the power supply, don't! When that goes, nothing will work. System restarts by its self can mean the CPU fan is dirty with lots of dust. You can blow this out as well. If it looks real dusty use a clean paint brush to help clean the fan. Don't be too rough with the brush. You don't want to break a fan blade.

Luck!
If the issue continues post back here or click the Ask Me button.
