Friends daughter forgot her password on her ASUS EeePC 2G Surf. Tried holding the F8 key during the boot process, as well as the F9 key; neither one does anything. Any other suggestions

Try this 2 options:
During the boot press "f9" key the other option is "Alt" plus "f9" keys simultaneously.
this will bring hidden recovery partition so you can restore your laptop as new again

Give this a try, just in case: When you turn on the Netbook, it starts, usually, with a black screen booting the Bios and then it starts the Windows OS. During the black screen, it probably says to press - F2, F8 or some other key combinations to get into "setup" mode. See if there is a "disable password..." in the menu item of you setup mode...and disable it. Just try...let me know if this works...Thnx

Press and hold the "Fn," or function, key on your EEE PC-1000's keyboard.

Press "F3" while holding "Fn" to lower the brightness on your monitor.

The brightness on your computer decreases each time "F3" is pressed.

Press "F4" while holding "Fn" to increase the brightness on your monitor.

Each time "F4" is pressed, the brightness increases.

Press "F8" while holding "Fn" to decrease the volume from your EEE PC's speakers.

Each time "F8" is pressed, the volume decreases.

Press "F9" while holding "Fn" to increase the volume from your EEE PC's speakers.

Each time "F9" is pressed, the volume increases.

Press the "Ins" key while holding "Fn" to take a screen shot, or make a copy of what is currently on the computer screen.

Lost Windows password:

• Login as Administrator. Try with no password (load safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode.
  
• Login as other user (if other user is available) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  
• Reformat computer.
  
• Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html

This one requires a licence key purchase. There may be a cheaper one or even free, but this one is extremely user friendly.

press f2 disable the booster boot

if still nothing, try all f keys, tab and space bar also have default settings on some

last is install windows xp on a usb flash drive if you dont have the dvd /cd restore disk

Or try below...
Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, then replace that faulty DLL, or better still, do a System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.

i wouldnt up date it ,youll need to install more ram any way and even then it might be a diffiucult starter

Press F8 as the computer is booting up and from the list that presents itself select SAFE MODE then select the Administrator account. Hopefully this account does not have a password, most of the time it does not.

caps lock on wep key,correct key length,re-install OS from F9 w"E"hilst booting if you seriously cannot connect,choose option(F9) every other boot then press "E" then press "B" then proceeed with initial config pages(time,location,passwd,etc)
you might find your wi-fi magically works again

When you start the computer hold the "F8" key to activate "safemode". Then start up Windows and look in the control panel/users and change the password.
