Ccfl inverter board

Hi, I need to replace a blown inverter board . I have identified the inverter as being mounted on the main board ( not separately) its a viewsonic lcd monitor.

a few questions:

How do I know which parts to replace? How can I fault find the inverter?

Which part usually blows when an inverter stops working?

any advice appreciated

Thanks

The most prevalent failure on these boards are the transformers and or the ic that controls the frequency of the lamp drive. More times than not you will find a bad transformer.

Monitor hpvs17e stays on for second and goes blank

gldngrlz411, most likely problem with internal "switch-mode-power-supply" / CCFL inverter supply that provides 600 to 1000 volts ac to light the CCFL tubes that provide "white light" so you can see what is on the glass LCD panel!! Explore here first: http://www/lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ If vs17e does same when connected to a different "known good" pc, then you will need to make big decision!!! Are you sure that both lamp assemblies are bad?

If tehy do not light up, it can be the problem in the inverter board, either because it has bad transistors, bad inverter transformers windings, blown fuse/fuses, bad caps in the power supply, etc.

CCFL Inverter

Mike inside th case of the monitor there are 1 or 2 pcb (computer like) boards if you check these you will most likely find capacitors that ar doomed (blown) this is the problem not the whole inverter board.

Monitor problem

You are experiencing an inverter board failure. You will need to replace or repair the inverter. The inverter drives the CCFL lamps that illuminate the screen if the lamps draw to much current or components on the board are overheating it will shut down the backlights. Some monitors have cold solder joints on the toroidal coils of the inverter that causes this problem, very typical with HP monitors, If you are handy with a solder iron you may try just re-soldering board and replacing push-pull transistors for a few more years of use. Provide make and model and I can be more specific about probable cause and solution.

Sceptre X9G-Komodo IV

I recently came accross one of these monitors (Planar PE191M) with the identical issue. The resolution was to replace the two 470ufd 25V capacitors that are located on the main power board. The main power board also contains the audio circuit and more importantly the inverter circuit that drives the CCFL backlighting. The suspect caps were identified using an ESR meter; if you happen to have one of these meters you can confirm this is the issue with your unit(s), alternatively you can just replace the two capacitors and see if it resolves your issue. Hope this info helps someone out there.

No display

I have repaired 3 Viewsonic VP211b monitors.
The power light comes on but there is in picture. In all three cases it was the same problem. It was a blown fuse on the inverter board.
1. The monitor must be opened: The black plastic back is pried off carefully. It is easy to damage or crack. This will expose the electronics.
2. Remove the metal covers: The power main board has a metal cover that is secured with 4 screws. When that cover is removed, you can then remove the cover over the inverter.
3. Remove the inverter: The inverter is held with 1 screw. There are a total of 6 pairs of wires to the fluorescent lights (3 on each side) that must be disconnected from the inverter and a there is a power and control cable to the main board that must be disconnected. The inverter should now be free.
4. Test the fuses: On the inverter there are two tiny surfaced mounted fuses, labeled F1 and F2. They are on either side of the power cable CN1. Either one can be blown. Test them both with an Ohmmeter.
These fuses are 1.5 mm long, 1.0 mm wide and 0.5 mm high (Case Style 1206). They have the letters FN printed on them. The N is for 2 Amps and the F is for Very Fast Blow.
I replaced them with the same fuse, except Fast Blow rather than Very Fast Blow. The replacement fuse has just the letter N. The FN was not available at the time and I felt the N would be close enough. The fuses were made by LittleFuse. They were purchased from Newark Electronics. Part number 64R8010.
Prior to acquiring the surface mount caps, I tested the inverter board by soldering a regular fuse across the blown fuse and putting the inverter back into the monitor. The monitor came back to life. Normally when there is a fuse blows, it is because there is a short someplace down stream. How ever the new fuses have held. Therefor I am assuming it was just faulty fuses.
With the new surface mounted fuses, the repaired boards were placed into monitors and they all worked.9486ec61-dd3d-4a22-bbc3-82b55a458b09.jpg00ad0ac3-9cf1-4fff-83ed-90d93e6a0e0a.jpg40cff7a9-f7c7-4904-aac3-eb656a117911.jpg0ee0c7e1-1e8a-4b07-936c-83557d5ddd2b.jpg3ccdb800-f497-41ee-b268-cad6a2330191.jpg4d8ec0f3-f0e3-4e06-bc47-791b2996f04b.jpg

Monitor will not power up

Hi tafkab, Sounds like it's probably the backlight inverter board. Try the test I have at the bottom to see. It's a very common problem. LCD's use four small Cold Compact Fluorescent bulbs to back light the display. (thats what gives the LCD it's brightness allowing you to see it) The inverter board runs these lights and when they go bad they will typically show symptoms like you have or the monitor power light comes on and you have either no display or a very dim display. If you ever have one that has no display but the power light is on you can check by shining a flashlight directly into the LCD from the front (right into the screen) if you can see an image then it's either the inverter board (most likely) or the CCFL bulbs have gone bad. The inverter board and CCFL's are replaceable. Good Luck, Dude
