LOL, see Windows 7 is not much better than Vista. The same group of knuckle heads wrote it. Have you ever noticed that not many corporations, school systems or government entities have migrated from Windows XP to Vista or Windows 7?
Windows 7 is missing a lot of drivers and that could be your problem. You can go to your manufacturers site and see if they have Windows 7 drivers for your Touchpad and Mouse.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Compaq Support" or "HP Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers.
If HP/Compaq cannot supply you with a recovery disc, then you can get around this. Install Windows XP then download the device drivers for your model laptop and install them on your laptop. You can use a another computer with Internet access then copy and install them on your laptop.
You can download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB
support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or
Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on
this link to download the drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html
This is all Compaq/Hp has for an XP installation on your laptop. The problem is, that your laptop was designed for Vista and that is what is supported by HP, there just aren't many drivers for an XP installation. They don't even offer a pre-made recovery disc. I am surprised the BIOS even allowed the install. Anyway, this is all I could dig up for you.
Just copy and paste to the address bar of your browser.
You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html
Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.
