Picture in picture operation & connection to dvd player

Now--first--connect the DVR cable box HDMI output to the HDTV HDMI input (use the lowest numbered one e.g. HDMI 1) for this connection. Use a standard (not Monster brand) HDMI cable for this connection. Then turn on the TV, turn on the cable box and switch the TV to the HDMI input. A picture should come on. You may even hear the audio on the TV speakers. If so, that is OK.

Then--connect the component video output of the DVD HT to the TV component 1 input. Use a three wire component video cable with red, blue and green connectors on each end. Connect color to color on both ends. Then turn on the DVD, put a DVD in the player and start it running. Switch the TV to the component input and it should show a pix. The audio will come from the DVD player speakers.

If your DVD player does have an HDMI output, you can use it and just connect as above to the second TV HDMI input.

To get audio from the cable box out of the DVD player speakers, you will need to connect an audio cable from the cable box go the HT amplifier. Use a set of RCA patch cables and go from the analog audio output of the cable box to the rear panel audio inputs of the DVD player. The owners manual for this unit will give directions on using this input. Since your HT unit does not have any other inputs, you will not be able to get Dolby Digital audio.

Hope this gives you food for thought. If so, and you have more questions, just come back in with a follow up.

Good luck. Remember, the owners manuals all have hook up connections diagrams. Sometimes they will help.

My tv no have volume

If you are using rca cables (red, white, and yellow connectors) then make sure they are completely pushed into the correct input.

If you are using S-video, make sure you have an rca audio cable (red and white) connected to the same input of the Tv as the svideo cable.

If you are using component (red, green, and blue) make sure you have an rca audio cable (red and white) connected to the same input of the Tv as the component cable, as well as the source of video.

If you are using hdmi, make sure the cable is secure and all the way in.

Also, check to make sure your tv isn't muted, it happens accidentally sometimes. Make sure the volume is up high enough as well.

If all of your cables are secure and attached right, and it still doesn't work, you may have blown the speakers or the internal electronics (of the tv) may be damaged.

If you need more info, contact me.

Thanks for asking

During our move the connection for the cable was broken off and we're no longer able to connect the cable wire. Can a new adapter be installed enabling for attachment of the cable wire.

You can use your VCR to connect the cable into and then choose in the menu which output you want which is component or Svideo. If you don't have a VCR then go to radio shack or electronics store to get a RF converter which is for older TVs(really old) which didn't have a coaxial connector. Get the one that has component and Svideo on it. Then you connect the component to the TV component(or Svideo) input and select that input in the TV menu. Fixed!

Upgrading my 480 component input to 1080

Get an upconverting DVDP that puts out 1080i on component. They were made several years ago, and today it can't be done without HDMI, which your set is too old for.

Momitsu, Bravo, Lite0n made them, with the Samsung 841 hackable for that purpose. Try to find one used, and be sure to ask whether they upconvert SD - standard - DVDs from 480i->1080i before you buy. Then take that 1080i in via component, which is stellar in its performance and has none of the anomalies that are plaguing HDMI on many brands of CRT units.

Most likely the digital board will have to be replaced. Not a cheap part, so you might concider using the component inputs for now if too expensive.
