PS3 Console not Switching on

Hi, I'm from Bangalore, India and I just bought a PS3 40 GB (Made In Japan version) from Singapore. I just used for about 5 hours, it worked very well and suddenly went off..since then it is not powering on at all..the green light comes on for a spilt second and then turns red..the red light keeps blinking all the while..even the game CD is sturck in the console..it is not ejecting out..

I suspect the following must have gone wrong; The power rating on the console is written as 100V @ ~3.5A, but I used with 230V(available in India as a standard, the manual also says the PS3 will automatically adopt itself to the power supply given)..so I suspect the problem with the power supply unit..

Any other possible cause for this kind of problem and a solution please..
Someone please help me out...

Hi PKV, I am also from Bangalore and have the same issue from last 2 years. I bought it from USA and used it for half an hour and suddenly power stopped coming in. I even sensed smoke that time though very light.
There could be two reason for this:
    (1) I used 220 V instead of 110 as specified. I did not use convertor.
    (2) This problem happened immediately after I put the plug in a damaged socket. I believe it could be because of this issue.

I consulted one person here and he said its a normal IC problem due to voltage difference.

From last 2 years, it is just lying idle. Please let me know if you find any person who can do the servicing. Your help will be highly appreciated.

That does sounds like what could have happend.. ALTHOUGH I know the american red light issue has to do with the Hard Drive.. Since it played for 5 hrs that would lead me to believe that it was not the power..

Pull the hard drive out and stick it back in if that does not work put a new hard drive in the ps3.
Let me know what you come up with!

How do i get ps2 games to play on my ps3

The only way how to play PS2 games on PS3 is to have the correct version of the console. Either your Playstation 3 can play PS and PS2 games or it can't, and there's not much to do about it. Most of the PS3 models simply cannot play older titles as they lack the necessary hardware and firmware. However, a few models do have backwards compatibility. The 20 Gb, 60 Gb, and original 80 Gb models all have backwards compatibility, either through hardware or software emulation. The other models lack backwards compatibility, so even knowing how to play PS2 games on PS3 won't help you out much here.

US version Wii Fit and Australian Wii console incompatibility

I don't think changing the TV would make any difference because the console isn't even loading up the disc. To play an NTSC game you would have to use a console from an NTSC area like the US. I'm sure Japan is NTSC as well. I've heard about Freeloader. Ever since I bought an Action Replay cartridge for my N64 I've never trusted Datel (who manufacture Freeloader). It really mucked up my N64. On the other hand I know many people who use Datel products and the like with no probs. I suppose if you got nothing to lose then try Freeloader.

Sorry I could'n t be much more help

Ps3 compatiblity with vibration and rumble feature

Greeting Vikas,
You do need a firmware update to enable the Dual Shock feature on your system. On the XMB (main menu), go to Settings and click on System Update. If you have internet connected you will be able to download the newest firmware there. Here is a link to a site with all of the Dual Shock compatible games For Japan, Europe, and USA.

PS3 80gb from Singapore will not play ps2 games Wrong region displayed

I,m pretty sure that the region settings on PS3s are factory set.
Your only option is to buy japanese games, or NTSJ.
I,d try to re-sell it back to someone in Singapore or Japan, and buy a UK Version.

Besides the obvious size difference of being able to store more information on it, the difference is that the 80gb console is backwards compatibility out of the box with 70% of the ps2 games and with the proper updates the 80gb console can be 98% compatible with ps2 games. The 40gb console isn't compatible with any ps2 games. Hope this helps.

Ps3

The problem with that is the PS3 that you bought is tuned for Japanese dvds and games, You may have to get your PS3 modded to support the French games. However I am unaware of the legality of having your PS3 modded.
Good Luck
