Hello My ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard has only two memory slot

I gone through your previous post and as u describe there is no four memory slot, it has only two slot. Now problem is same , I want to upgrade my 256MB Kingston RAM to 1GB (I bought new Ram of Simptronics). I want to put both Ram but system can't start when both Ram inserted (single Ram on both slot works). I also tried exchanging both Ram on both slot still not work. I am sure you have a solution.

Thanks in advance

    Thanks Mike,

Even I cant adjust with my new RAM according to you answer, I set my mind that Asus K8V-MX Motherboard has such conditions of using RAM. Otherwise I might wonder and confuse for long time about the problem. Thanks a lot Mike again.

    Hello Mike,

Thanks for again replying. I got your points and I am not trying to upgrade to 2GB of RAM, I just want to upgrade my existing 256MB RAM with one more 1GB RAM.But still here is doubt left in my mind. I cant use both RAM one 256MB of Kingston and 1GB RAM of Simtronics at a time as I wrote earlier. I configure the RAM in your said conditions but still not. so my question is cant i use both RAM at time? if not is there any possibility to use both if I changed the my 1Gb RAM of simtronics to the RAM of Qualified Vendor List (QVL)?

My motherbord K8V-MX has only two slot of RAM.

I have also post a new comment in my another post about HDD. Following is the link.

Look into you're manual, go to pages 1-11 & 1-12.
The memory listed here has been tested by Asus to work correctly in the K8V-MX motherboard. In order for you to reach 2GB memory you will need DS memory. Double sided. This means there is 512MG on each side of a single DIMM, hence 2x1x 512MB DIMM equals 1GB. So you will need 4x 512MB to raxhl a total memory of 2GB. Please stay within the recommended memory listed on the Qualified Vendor List (QVL).
Simptronics memory it not on the QVL list. From time to time some memory not one the list may still function. This is not one of those times.

You read it incorrectly. DS = double sided. Each side of a DIMM holds 512MB of memory, which equals 1GB. You need two 1GB DIMM's of DS memory. You added the thought of needing four memory slots................................................

Hello here is the asus homepage:

Here is no drivers for windows 8.

Add a graphic card on the mainboard. This mainboard probably has the AGP slot, for adding a graphic card.

You just have to make sure, the driver is available for windows 8.

You can try the VIA drivers here:

But i can`t give you a guaranty, the driver will work.

Good luck

I have an old K8V-MX mother board. Recently, the 1G RAM spoiled. I try to replace it by 2 x DDR400 512M RAM. Both 512M are used and with the same part no Kingstone KVR400X64C3A/512, but different...

Click on this link. It will open a copy of the motherboard manual. Check section 1-7 on system memory. Verify the part numbers of you RAM against those listed. SOme will only work in one slot or the the other but not both. Older boards were strange that way, in the early days of dual-channel memory mode.

Hope this helps!

RAM Upgradation Problem

Your K8V-MX has 4 memory slots. The slot closest to the CPU is DIMM A1, to its right is B1, & than A2 & B2. Your memory should be matched if possible but in your case with 1xGB & 1x512Mb the memory should be placed as such. The 1Gb in slot B1 & the 512MB in B2. Check your manual for more configurations.
