Question about Kenmore 16.7 cu. ft. / 473 liter Upright Freezer 23725

1 Answer

Whirlpool Freezer I have a 15.2 cf upright frost-free whirlpool freezer. For the past month I have been having to clear out a layer of ice from under the basket in bottom of freezer. Food appears to stay frozen with no problems and when the door first shuts the seal prevents from being able to open it for a few minutes. Can you give me any suggestions? My husband and I are both retired, living on fixed income and would prefer not to have to put out money for new freezer if unnecessary. Thank You. HMc

Sorry Tech 17, I cleared the hole of the ice, cleaned out freezer totally and started it back up again. 8 hours later there is ice in the bottom of our freezer again. I suppose we will just have to purchase a new freezer tomorrow.... Thank you for trying to help me. Hapster

I have the same problem with kenmore 106.5462300, clearing the drain hole did not work, problem was back within a couple of days. Is there a likely part failure?

Whirlpool freezer which is non frost is making ice and freezer stop working

I would first unplug the freezer, let it thaw, and then plug it in to see if the motor kicks in. If that is to no avail, then you could be looking at a bad motor.

I have a Whirlpool Model EV 200N Upright Freezer which is having ice freeze on the bottom of the freezer. What can I do?

If there is frost forming at the bottom to the door, your door gasket is leaking at that location. You may be able to relax gasket back in place with hair dryer, be carefull you can melt gasket. If it is sheets of ice, your defrost drain may be frozen

Ice in bottom of frost free whirlpool freezer

Most likely the drain (located behind the lower panel rear wall) is obstructed. You will want to clear out the ice build up and use a turkey baster with hot water to clear the frozen drain tube.

Upright freezer shuts off and leaks when there is any kind of ice buildup. has done this twice in 7 months. is this normal or is it on its way out?

I suggest checking the defrost circuit. Make sure the drain in the back of the freezer is clear first. Then check the defrost timer, switch, and heating element using a volt meter. You can download a schematic from the Sears/Kenmore website.

Small patch of ice if frost free freezer

Frost free does not mean no frost ever anywhere. It just means that there is a mechanism to defrost the evaporator on a regular basis. If there is a spot where frost is forming in the box it may just mean that a little bit of moisture that is not collected on the coil may be finding another cold spot to stick. The area where the fan blows into the cabinet is bound to be the coldest spot in the freezer therefore an ideal place to collect frost. Check the level of the unit and your door gasket to be sure the door is closing tight and true.

Top & middle shelves COVERED with frost/ice, not middle

That is normal. The refrigerant runs through those shelves. They are the evaporator side of the unit. That is where the freezing effect comes from.
Check door seals for leaking air.
Keep door openings to a minimum.
Get in there and get out.
Those things will help prolong frost/ice buildup.

Our 19.6 cf whirlpool "commercial" freezer (sn EV201NXMQ0312 building up ice in the bottom under the slide out basket. It actually builds up enough in a month or so to keep the basket from sliding out....

the ice build up is from a frozen drain line. you will need to remove teh rear cover in the freezer and you will uncover a coil at the bottom center there is a drain hole that allows defrost water to drain out. defrost any ice then flush the line out with warm water. if it doesnt clear right away you may need to use a large syringe or possibly a turkey baster to force warm water into drain.
BTW the door not sealing is not related to this problem. good luck peyton

Frost free freezer smells like fish

IF THERE WAS A LAYER OF ICE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FREEZER, THE DRAIN IS PROBABLY PLUGGED UP. IT WILL NEED TO BE CLEARED BEFORE PUTTING BACK INTO SERVICE OR IT WILL JUST DRAIN INTO THE FLOOR OF THE FREEZER AGAIN. AS FAR AS THE ODOR, TRY PUTTING CHARCOAL IN IT TO ABSORB THE ODORS. IT WILL HAVE TO BE LEFT IN THERE FOR QUITE A WHILE. WHEN THE FREEZER IS CHILLED, IT WILL LESSEN THE SEVERITY OF THE ODOR. IF THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE, THERE ARE COMMERCIAL ODOR NEUTALIZERS ON THE MARKET YOU CAN USE.
