We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Replaced the burned out lamps in the counter top light fixture and the switch no longer functions. Tried each lamp separately and together and same result. Just stays on.

It sounds like the switch has fused shut, it may just need jiggling on and off a few times to free it, turn off the power before you try that. The switch can easily be checked by a competent engineer with a meter. It does seem an unlikely coincidence though, are you sure you haven't twisted the lamp fitting as you inserted the lamp, thus shorting something? Check none of the fittings are loose or twisted

Sounds as if the magnetron tube inside has reached it's useful life...mag tubes are expensive and would outweigh the cost of a new uniot

I have a whirlpool gold over the top range microwave gh7155xkb. it runs fine but does not cook.

Microwave problems as you describe can be the result of a failure of any of the following:
1) Internal fuse
2) Failed diode
3) Failed rectifier
4) Failed magnetron
5) Failed transformer

Any one of these components could be bad. Do not attempt repair yourself unless you are comfortable with working with high voltage electronics. I've listed the failures in order of cost, with 4 and 5 being interchangeable in terms of cost. The fuse is the only item which can be checked. The rest are replaced by trial and error, with the first three items being tried at the same time. All items can be ordered from various places on the internet.

Can't get light bulb cover off in Whirlpool oven

The only thing i can suggest it to tap it lightly with the handle of the screw driver to see if maybe it is cross threaded. some are hard to get off.. so maybe try using one of those jar opener pads to get a better grip to turn it.

The controller needs to be repaired. We regularly repair these control board assemblies for only $32.50 nationwide, and that's much cheaper than replacing the board. For safety, disassembly and other info see http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
