Wont read ethernet cable

i guess what you are saying is that the ethernet cable doesn't bring you any connectivity. try to replace the cable (maybe it's faulty or a crossover cable and your router/switch doesn't have audo mdx option)
also check if your ethernet card is installed (drivers) and enabled

I have an Acer Aspire One and when I plug the charger in I have to spin it or wiggle it or both to get the battery to charge. Once I have it in position it generally stays on charge, but if the cable is...

It could be either one Sarah.

The AC adapter's (Charger) cable, or the DC Power Jack where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop.

This is an example of the DC Power Jack not installed,

http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/Acer-Aspire-ONE-AOA150-ZG5-DC-Power-Jack-AC351816.html

(You can click on the three views of the jack to enlarge)

1) Check the DC Power Jack to see if it's in good repair.

Battery removed use a small flat tipped screwdriver, and Gently see if you can move the Center Pin around in the jack.
See if the Center Pin will move side to side a small amount. There is supposed to be No perceptible movement.

Referring back to the closeup photos of the DC Power Jack, the flat blade-like prongs are upside down, in relation to how the jack sits on the motherboard.

The flat prongs go down through the motherboard, and are soldered to the motherboard.
If the center pin of the jack is stationary, but the jack as a unit moves around, one or more solder joints, (Connections) for the flat prongs may be cracked.

The repair consists of completely disassembling the laptop, removing the broken DC Power Jack, and installing a new one.

Acer Aspire One service manual,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

(Click on the blue - One - in Aspire One.
This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (One) it may take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page.
It may also take additional time for the file to fully download.

(Took 12 seconds just now for full download)

No perceptible movement of the DC Power Jack? Suspect the cable of the AC adapter right near it's plug. (Plug that plugs into the DC Power Jack)

How do i connect to the internet

Well, first you need to have an internet connection. DSL, CABLE, etc. Your internet service provider will supply you with a modem. On the back of the modem you will find an ethernet port. It is a rj45 jack which is wider than telephone. An ethernet cable, usually yellow or blue, is supplied with the modem. This cable plugs into the ethernet port on your computer. This gives you internet capability. All you have to now is open a browser.

When logging in to windows, get message that user id or domain is incorrect. The line with the domain has disappeared. How can i get it back?

Sounds like the laptop isn't seeing the network which is why the domain option would be missing. Turn off the laptop and then make sure the ethernet cable is plugged in snug. Unplug it and plug it back into the ethernet jack on your laptop.

Then turn the laptop on and it should recognize the network at that point and you'll see the domain option.

If you still don't see it then try hooking up another computer up to the cable. If that computer doesn't see the network then its a problem with the connection. If it does see the network then its an issue with the laptop, might be an issue with the ethernet jack on the laptop.

RJ-45 port fails to securely seat the ethernet jack

These ports are soldered onto the motherboard. They can be changed out by a tech that has the right equipment. I have been able to successfully pull these off at one time using a heat gun set to high for 15 seconds. Then the solder points need to be cleaned thoroughly and the new jack placed into the brass sleeves of the motherboard and each leg soldered into position.

I cannot connect the Ethernet male end into the female end

On the male end of the cable there should be a little plastic clip that sticks up, this is what holds the cable in and if you want to disconnect the cable you will have to push done on this clip to release it. These are prone to break off and if it does break off your best bet is to buy a new cable. These can be replaced but will cost about the same as new cable and are not as reliable.

moz-screenshot.pngRefer to this image to see the clip I am referring to: http://www.nuggetlab.com/comptia_files/equipment/net_CAT%205%20cable%20with%20RJ-45%20connector.jpg

Cannot connect laptop with the eithernet cord

If you cannot connect your laptop using an Ethernet cable, make sure the laptop's wireless ethernet is disabled. To disable it in window xp, click the Start button and open the Control Panel. Double-click Network Connections. Right-click Wireless Network Connection and select Disable from the drop-down list.

04e3ee0.png If you are using a laptop with Windows Vista, click the Start Button and type Network and Sharing into the Start Search box. Select Network and Sharing Center from the Programs list. Select Manage Network Connections from the left pane of the window. The Network Connections window will open. Click on Wireless Network Connection. Select Disable this Network Device at the top of the window.

9a7c8c6.png Troubleshoot the Network
After disabling the laptop's wireless connection, be sure to restart the computer before trying to connect with the Ethernet cable again. If you still cannot connect the laptop to the network with an Ethernet cable after rebooting, check to make sure there is not a problem with the network itself. If there are others nearby connected to the same network, such as in your office, dorm or another public location, ask them whether they are currently able to connect to the network. If no one else is using the network, contact the system administrator or your Internet service provider to see if there may be an outage. This step can save you plenty of time troubleshooting if there is an outage in your area!
Troubleshoot the Ethernet Cable
If there is no problem with the network itself, the reason that you cannot connect the laptop may be the ethernet cable. Make sure that the Ethernet Cable is securely connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet. If possible, try connecting the Ethernet cable into another wall jack or port on the router, and then try using a different Ethernet cable. The Ethernet cable you are using may be damaged.

8686681.png Troubleshoot Network Settings
If the Ethernet cable does not seem to be the reason why you cannot connect to the network, check the laptop's network settings. In Windows XP, open the Control Panel and select Network Connections. Open Local Area Connection and check the status of the connection.
In Windows Vista, go to the Network and Sharing Center and select Diagnose and Repair from the left pane and wait for the results.

If the Local Area Connection is listed as Disabled, right-click it and choose Enable.
If it says that the network adapter is unplugged and you have ruled out a problem with the Ethernet cable and port, the laptop's network adapter may have failed. Try using the same Ethernet cable on another computer. If you are able to connect to the network on another computer using the same Ethernet cord, contact the laptop's manufacturer, a computer repair technician or replace the network adapter yourself.

How do I hook up my acer aspire to my existing phone line modem? I know there is an ethernet cable that goes to the Aspire but I need something that fits the phone jack also. Is there an adapter?

Hello, I regret to inform you that you cannot connect a phone line directly into an ethernet port. The phone line is an analog signal and requires a modem to convert it to a digital signal the computer can understand.
