My ice maker does not work. How do I remove it to check it?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

There are at least 3 different ice makers in use. They are not all the same. What is your make and model number so we can cite applicable reference material to help you?

This is just a guess.... at matching a manual to your unit, but download this manual and follow the troubleshooting procedures:
http://adcxns1.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/8527f904cc8ea8cd85256b5800672333/$FILE/4322658A.pdf

Note.. Trouble shooting is best performed while the ice maker is "Installed"
If the ice maker checks out ok then most likely the freezer may not be getting cool enough from either a automatic defrosting problem or... an evaporator fan motor that is not running at full speed.

Additionally... if the freezer door switch has failed the ice maker will not work at all even if you are following the steps in the manual link above. The door switch controls power to the ice maker and shuts off ice maker power when the freezer door is open. Most of the time you never realize the door switch has failed unless you manually test it with the door open. (i.e light on / off and ice maker power on / off as tested with a meter)

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Kelly

Ice build up in freezor compartment , on food and in ice bin

the defrost heater may be open (not shorted) Most time the defrost heater lamp has failed. It is behind the panel in the rear of the freezer.

Ice maker does not work

the lighs are normal if you have no ice then is something else ok remove the cover infron of the ice maker there you should see the the ejector it looks like spikes or forks ok they should be facing you if they are facing down into the mold then you have a broken module in ice maker now there isa fill tube on your right that fills the mold with water squeeze it is hard or soft if hard then is frozen keep it from filling the mold de ice it with hair dryer or unplug unit for a day or so . next if spikes are facing you and there is no ice then you have to trouble shoot the water valve at the back of unit there are 2 selenoid 1 for dispencer and 1 for ice maker locate the one for the ice maker and apply 12o volt directly into selenoid if you get no water replace it. if you get water repl optic board that is the red lights ok
