Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

2 Answers

"Panasonic dmr-es15" My unit was working fine until I put a HP DVD+R/RW disk in it. It asked me if I wanted to format it. I said yes. After the process, I set the timer, it accepted the time, I then shut off the machine. Later on when I went to finalize the disk, & watch it. I received the U61 error message. The clock blinks sometimes, other times it will display Ch 3, on the display. I do hear noise coming from the disk, like it was trying to read the disc. Panasonic Tech support was very responsive (via their E-mail service). After 2 E-mails, the final resolve was to send the unit in for repair. Any ideas. I believe that if I did not use the HP DVD+R/RW disc, this would not have happened.

Hi,

This is what U61 syands for
"unit is carrying out a recovery process, don't do anything , just wait till display returns to normal, remove disc first."

I found this in another forum, you might find it helpfull.

"Yesterday, my DMR-ES15 started to malfunction, giving me the error U61.
No matter how many times I tried to press Enter, and Power On, the machine
kept re-booting with the error U61. I noticed that the drive was making
some noises as if the Read head was not able to park properly.
So I decided to open up the unit and find out why.
I took out the 3 screws holding the DVD drive top in place. And then moved
the drive head mechanism back (pushed it towards the back of the unit).
I then plugged the power in, turned it on, and amazingly there was no more
U61 error.
I test the unit this morning again and everything seems to work properly again!"

If your product is still under warranty call Panasonic and they will send you a technician, or they will pick it up, and fix it for free.

Here you can find a more detailed proces about, how to fix your U61 error code, however, if you have the change i will recomend you to call Panasonic and ask them for your warranty, or see if you can change that product since i have heard it has that common anoying U61 error code.

I am trying to record with a sony dvd-r disc and the recorder don't recognize it. the only disc that works is the dvd ram 4.7 but that disc does not work on other standard dvd players. what is the answer?

According to the official description of that recorder, you should have no problem, this is from the description for the DMRES15:

Recordable DVD Media

Record your favorite shows onto DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM DVD discs. The DMR-ES15 is also compatible with DVD+R Double layer media and provides up to 14 hours of media recording.

Multi-Format Player

Don't worry about limited playback capabilities, the DMR-ES15 can play DVD, DVD-RW (VR Mode), DVD-RW (Video Mode), DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, VCD and CD-DA discs. Also, you can play your favorite songs from CDs or MP3 files, and JPEG images.

Trouble with DVD+RW Disks being compatiable or staying formatted

cos they are cheap - get some decent branded discs such as TDK or tayo yuden and it should be fine

Also check the manual and or requirements on there website and it should show which are the best discs to use for that player but TDK or tayo yuden should be fine.

www.svp.co.uk or any where you can buy discs from should be fine

DMR-ES15 Stops after 45 Min.

U88 means the unit has detected an error while recording or playing and has entered its recovery process to restore the unit to normal operation. You could try using a DVD-RAM disk or a different make of DVD-R but, as you say the unit is new, you should probably return it to the retailer for exchamge, repair or refund according to unit age and retailer's return policy.

For the unit to be confirmed if its o.k or not You have to take disc which is not very knew and slight scratches ,offcourse which is playing in your other dvd player.Play it on dmr-es 10 see if it plays normally,if it does than its lens is o.k.Other thing you can try is insert blanck disc and try formatting it,if it does than it s o.k.Try R+,R- AND RW+,RW-.iF This disc can be formatted on dmr es10 than the unit you can decide to purchase

Model No'DMR-ES15 - U61problem

I get this message occasionally on my Panasonic DMR-ES15. It's actually a really simple fix. It occurs when there is a corruption in the disc which causes the recording mechanism to malfunction. There is a separate error message for this, however it is usually not detected until it's too late. When the recorder asks you to carry out the recovery process, do it. When the disc ejects, make sure you take the disc out that was in there when it occured and throw it away...it will keep happening because the disc is permanently corrupted. However, do not close the tray without a disc or the self-check will fail. Instead pop in a disc of the same format that the error occured in (if it was DVD+RW then put in a DVD+RW). It resolves the problem every time on the first try. (It only happened two times in a year and a half for me). As the manual says the unit is "NOT BROKEN".
