I just hooked up my tv and it says its programming the TvGuide+ and it says turn off tv or cancel. i hit cancel and nothing happens and i turn the tv off and 12 hours later it still isnt programmed. why is it doing this? it wont let me change channels or go to the menu or anything. only the volume works when its like this
I had this problem and only thing that worked was turning the tv off while programing was in progress approx. 30mins and back on again and it is fine untill the set is unplugged again and then the process must be repeated.

I am having this problem and It is happening on 2 different brand tv's. I have had Foxtel on both tv's for years and never had a problem until I moved, I got the Foxtel reconnected at my new address and it started. I have IQ on 1 tv and standard digital on the other. If anyone could help that would be great.
I had the same problem with my 37L and 42L Vizio TVs but my 26w vizio TV guide works perfectly. on 12/28/2009 I called vizio about the problem and they said that Vizio lost a law suit with a company (tech didn't tell me the company name) that said that Vizio did not own the "TVGUIDE" technology b/c the other company invented it first. So, Vizio was forced to turn this feature off in their new TV's so that's why my guide button with older Vizio 26" TV (bought in 2007) works and my newer 37" and 42" Vizio TV's (Bought in 2008) do not even though the instructions are still in their user manuals which the tech said will be removed in future user manuals.
I had the TVGUIDE listing through my GE TV and it came across with a notice that they would no longer be putting out the listings. That was last year and the listing never showed up again. Your DVR may be recording digitally but if you can see it on a analog tv, it is using a analog turner and you will need a converter box to record once everything goes digital.
Most of the digital converter boxes come with a guide built in. I have the Magnavox and the Zenith and they work fine. You will need two converter boxes, one for the DVR and one for the tv, if you want to watch the tv and record a different show at the same time.
I would hook them up by splitting the antenna wire to the tv and the DVR. Then I would use the RCA plugs to connect the DVR to the TV and use the Input setting on the TV when I want to watch the DVR. You will have to set the converter box to the channel that is playing the program you want. The DVR will be set to channel 3 or 4 (whatever channel the converter box is set on to broadcast on) to record on, not the broadcast channel. Make sure the power saver on the converter box is set to off or the converter box will turn off after a couple hours and you will get no picture for the dvr to record on.
The digital signal is being sent over the air usually over UHF channels. It sent digitally but will be picked up by your antenna in the same way it picks up the analog signal thus there is no difference. There is no such thing as a digital antenna, thus a antenna from a Home Depot will work fine. I needed a outdoor antenna but the picture quality is the same as cable. Just make sure the antenna can pick up UHF and VHF signals.
when this has happened to me in the past; if I remember correctly I hit home, stop, cancel, etc any of those gets it to send me the banner that if I stop now......it is not going to CANCEL loading!!! I'm thinking YEAH!!! and then I select the prompt to cancel. I then hit menu again, to cancel and I believe I select home...Now perhaps you think I SOUND a bit "iffy" it would be true; seeing how it has been at least 3 months since it has happened and I sure not going to go and hit that ****** to walk you thru it(he he) sorry but I know you know how it is!!! GOOD LUCK DON'T GIVE UP AND DO YOUR BEST TO NEVER HIT THAT TVGUIDE+ AGAIN (i have many times and its always a pain in my brain) now get her done!
I spoke with Toshiba tech support today (800-631-3811). They have an advanced services team that focuses on TV Guide On Screen. Learned the following:
- The TV Guide On Screen signal is updated 4x / day and is broadcast by your service provider
- The broadcast channel varies depending on what the service provider chooses (though typically a major network or PBS station)
- TV Guide On Screen has been doing some reprogramming and updates recently and this has resulted in many sporadic outages
If you ARE not receiving your listings, it's one of two things - either your DVR or the signal from the cable company.
- If you are having issues, call Toshiba and let them know, they will walk through some basic troubleshooting to narrow down if the problem is the DVR or the TV Guide On Screen signal.
- If the issue is the TV Guide On Screen signal, they will be able to report the issue to TV Guide On Screen and let them know their is an issue.
