Kodak easyshare m853 digital camera

i have my camera plugged into the usb port to charge the light comes on for about 5 min then it goes off, my computer is not detecting the (found new hardware) when i plug the camera into the port I connected my MD 853 to a USB port, and doesnot charge. The light came on for a few seconds, turned red, then completely "died" I think. I don't know how else to get this camera charged. I purchased it refurbished, and have only had it a few days...I'm hopeful it works.
