Irecord will not record

Hello I am having trouble with the iRecord. The system that my family has is separate DVD, surround sound, TV and tape player. I tried to plug the red, yellow, and white cords in to the sound system and the other into the tv and black cord into the TV and it did not work. I tried to plug it into the different systems and it did not work. The light was only orange and said it recorded sound but no sound showed up on my ipod and only recorded for a few seconds. Please help.

no its widescreen tv its pretty big
