same problem with Kenmore dryer Model No. 110.96250100. The timer would not advance under any setting. I replaced the timer and it only advances under timed dry but does not shut off when it times out. Under all other settings, the timer knob does not move, but the temperature stays warm. I checked the continuity on thermostats and resistor and, to the best of my knowledge, all passed. all in all, it appears to be a mechanical problem with your timer. You most likely have to replace the POS timer, my girlfriend\'s failed out of the box, a month later and again two years later. I dissected the timer and found the cheapest set of plastic reduction gears between the timer motor and the gear that drives the knob, and one of them had the teeth stripped off.
You can find them on ebay for less than $50 shipped rather than pay $100+ for one from a parts store.
Sounds like you have a faulty timer switch, check with your local supply house and get the same type of switch.
When you go to replace the timer switch, unplug the dryer, then remove one wire at a time. This will prevent wiring mix-ups. Good luck, I hope this helps
