The volume controls are too sealed to get any effect from cleaner, but the GP300/ GP350 / P110 all suffer from the same problem.. the only thing supporting the volume and channel controls are the solder joints, NO HARDWARE ie/ screws, nuts etc. The solder joints fracture over time, sometimes even breaking off the solder tabs on the controls at the PCB. Also on the GP300/ P110, the speaker/mic jacks can become loose and/or internal contacts corroded, causing intermittent mic audio and also receive audio. Remember all audio routes THRU the sp/mic jack, so even if you don't use it, it can still have an effect on performance.

Hi,

It would seem that your volume control is spotty. A short term repair would be to spray the inside with electronic contact cleaner while rotating the volume control. Of course the best solution is to replace the component.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

How To Channge Frequency s in Motorola GP300

MOT GP 300 need RIB box and the software for the programming.
Give a google search for the home brewing of the RIB box.
Software is licensed and have to seek the support of a MOT dealer/ service.

I recommend you **** can the USB cable and get a RIB and Rib cable. The GP300 Motorola software is available online for free (I can give you the web page address) and works just like the real Motorola software. I have programmed at least 20 GP300s with it with no issues. A RIB is the only way to go. Everyone has nothing but trouble with USB cables. Particularly with newer radios like the CP200.

Use a GP300 to open a security gate? is it possible?

Hello hougies1,

Yes, what you describe is possible, although it may require some custom set up. You would need a receiver and circuit set up at the gate to receive the signal from the GP300 and activate gate control mechanism. You would also need some sort of signalling device (such as a DTMF touch tone pad).

There is an optional DTMF pad for the GP300 or you could use an external DTMF tone generator and just hold it up to the microphone of the GP300 to send the tones. Additionally there are several out of the box receiver solutions that include activation circuits that could be tied into your gate control. The Ritron TeleSwitch immediately comes to mind (Ritron has a whole line of gate control products) but other manufacturers such as Motorola have solutions available as well.

I'd recommend contacting your local professional two-way radio shop and explaining to them what it is you are trying to accomplish. I'm sure they could give you some guidance and pricing.

Best Regards,
Ken

Motorola GP300

Hi,

The Motorola GP300 needs an external device to program the frequencies assigned to the channels. All other features and functions are also accessed (enable/disabled) in the same fashion.

To start with, you would need programing interface that attaches to the back of the unit once the battery is removed. This also provides the power to the radio as well as the data connections. The interface is called a Radio Interface Box (RIB). Aside from the power leads, it has also a multi wire cable that is terminated with either a 9pin or 25pin serial plug that plugs in to the serial port of a PC.

Likewise required is a specific Radio Service Software (RSS) package(s) that is appropriate for a Motorola Radius GP series. This should be run on a personal computer capable of running pure DOS.

On running the RSS, all parameters can be adjusted and configured to your preference like Ch1 to be set to 456.789 MHz, CTCSS 108, etc. Having said this, then it is just a matter of repeating the programming to all of your radios.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
