Question about Dell Inspiron 7000/7500

How do I force XP to accept a Windows 98 driver?

I need to force Windows XP to use a Windows 98 driver. I understand this may cause system instability. My XP audio driver is not compatible with my DVD player (I get video but no audio). The DVD player works fine when I install 98 so I'd like to see if my Windows 98 driver will work but XP will not let me reinstall the 98 driver. I get the error message "The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device" (ESS Device Manager).

I have an old Princeton VL 173 that I had been using with an old computer running Windows XP Pro. It works fine. Got a computer with an Asus MB and a Intel Core 2 Quad running Windows 7 Home Premium...

It sounds like a driver/software issue. When you ran the Princeton VL173 on XP you probably had all the correct software for your video card and the correct drivers to support your video output. When you changes OS to Windows 7, the XP drivers are no longer in place. My best guess is that you need to find and install the correct drivers for your system video and for your video card that are Windows 7 compatible. The old XP drivers will not work in Windows 7.

I am running XP with a Princeton VL173. It works great. I identified the correct video drivers for my system and installed them. My video card is nVidia 8800GT. I downloaded and installed the latest software from nVidia and installed it. It runs like a champ.

Several months ago my display died. It was just blank -- black. I tried using a power supply (AC adapter) from an old HP printer that died, and it worked! The plugs were identical, and the power output profiles were very nearly identical. It has been rinnung great for many months now.

I hope this helps.

I am looking for a monitor driver for Windows Vista for LT1919

Windows XP and Vista should "auto-detect" the capabilities of this LCD screen.

If not, access http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com
and scan for updates.
When the scan is done, look for "optional hardware" updates.
If Microsoft has a driver, it will be offered for download.

My monitor's resolution changed overnight and everything is ginormous and off-color, and I can't change the resolution through the control panel and I've already tried system restore. What else can I do?

Sounds like you may have had a bad system update overnight. Try going to the device manager through the control panel. IN XP you get to through System and then the hardware tab....anyway, find the graphics adapter and try to roll back the driver to the previous one. This may clear up the settings issue and allow to make changes. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the graphics adapter and reboot. This will force windows to recognize the hardware on reboot and load fresh drivers for it.

Acer AL1716 Monitor Troubleshoot

You can try the following: - Early (very) in the boot routine tap either F5 or F8 to access a short startup menu - Choose 'Safe Mode' (this should give you some kind of display) If it does give you a screen; - Click Start - Select Control Panel - Open the System folder - Click on Hardware - Choose Device Manager - Find and open Monitors - Highlight whatever monitor is listed and delete it
With your monitor turned on and connected, reboot your PC.
I can't guarantee it but this may force Windows 'Plug and Play (or Pray)' to look for, find and then finally install some kind of driver (may not look like you want) to get your Desktop visible again.
Then you can adjust settings in the ontrol Panel's Display section.
Your monitor could be causing the problem but it is more likely Windows doing whatever it feels like (or nothing at all) again.

I think this is a non-ddc monitor. But I think you right, the monitor is damaged and won't read it's own driver. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/162737/en-us
