I need to force Windows XP to use a Windows 98 driver. I understand this may cause system instability. My XP audio driver is not compatible with my DVD player (I get video but no audio). The DVD player works fine when I install 98 so I'd like to see if my Windows 98 driver will work but XP will not let me reinstall the 98 driver. I get the error message "The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device" (ESS Device Manager).
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Regarding on your problem, in windows xp and up version of windows operating system, plug and play device is easy and no need to install its drivers manually cause the computer will automatically install its drivers. But in the case of Windows 98 you have to install your USB Driver manually in order to be recognize by the system. So my recommendation please insert the CD driver or load the driver of your USB and run the setup.exe to install the USB Driver.
I understand that you need windows 98 drivers for your Notebook.
I have searched the HP website and found the drivers for the following operating systems.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Microsoft Windows XP Home edition Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows Vista Home Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise Microsoft Windows Vista Business
But not for Microsoft Windows 98...
Windows 98 is considered to be obsolete now. As far as I know no one will provide drivers for this model Notebook for Windows 98. Please install atleast Windows 2000 in the Notebook for the drivers to work correctly.
For other operating system drivers other than Windows 98 could be found in the following link..
Hi, Make sure you are installing the proper Windows Vista drivers. I guess for the given printer Vista driver are not available. Sorry lexmark has not yet released Windows Vista driver for the given model.
They only support this model in Windows 98/ME/2000/XP.Does Vista have a ADD PRINTERS Wizard (like XP does)? If so you might
try running it and see if Microsoft included built-in support. Or you
might experiment with other generic models to see if you can get basic
printing features. To download the drivers for 98/ME/2000/XP, Click on the below and select the operating system and download. http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi To add a printer in Vista, click on the link and follow the steps.. http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2007/01/25/add-a-printer-in-vista/ Hopefully it should work.. Thank you.......
If u have Windows Xp Cd just Boot from the CD and once when Partition Table comes at that time delete all the partition and create new partitions and select C : Drive and just format with NTFS or FAT File system Recommended is NTFS it will install Windows Xp on particular drive later once when windows is totaly up i.e, when desktop comes u just click on the other drives it will ask for Format just format it.
But the Problem u face is the drivers some drivers it will take automatically some it will not take at that time u should put u r machine model number and name in google and search
