Try pushing it in with gentle but firm pressure. After some distance, it should automatically go in, but at times you may have to push it all the way in.

As Benimur suggested, this could be a problem with the belt-gear assembly/motor, It shouldn't affect the working of the player itself, except for the inconvenience of opening/closing the tray.

If you find this inconvenience unbearable, then you will have to get the device repaired by a competent technician, or replace the player (whichever works out cheaper for you)..

Hi,

Most DVD/CD drive are belt engaged driven by a small motor. If the tray is not sliding in and out by itself, it is highly probable that the belt is cut and therefore of course would require replacement. In some instances, it could be the small motor itself or the servo electronics that control it. There are also known instances when the tray is misaligned or the plastic rail/gear underneath have been worn out.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi XX,

    with the indulgence of XX....

    Copy that the DVD drive is in a Dell Laptop. Often they can be removed by removing a single locking screw underneath the laptop and the entire DVD drive can be made to slide out. In certain models, the keyboard must be removed to access this screw and or a locking bar or retainer clip.

    Since you have not posted the model of the laptop, pls try to go to the manufacturer's website. I was made to understand that Dell has a comprehensive service manuals available online here. More specific instructions would be available to you then.

    Cheers.

My dvd rw is not working.. i mean.. its not reflecting on my pc..

1) Computer off, and unplugged from power.

2) Computer on a table open the computer case

3) Observe Anti-Static Precautions.

4) Unplug the power cable (15-pin), and the data cable (7-pin) to the DVD-R/W drive.

5) Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of Five seconds.
Let go of the Power On button.
Do this procedure TWO more times.

6) Plug the power cable, and data cable back into the DVD-R/W drive.

7) Close the computer case, and plug the computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.
After Windows loads you should see a pop-up, "Found new hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XXXX DVD-R/W optical drive"

Number 5 above clears the CMOS Error Codes out, and resets BIOS settings back to the factory default settings.
Unplugging the optical drive, (DVD-R/W drive) ,and performing number 5, kind of slaps BIOS around, and makes it recognize the drive is attached, and also Windows.
Makes Windows match of one of it's thousands of generic drivers for the DVD-R/W drive.

I cannot eject my dvd it doesnt play also

Look at the drive there should be a tiny pin hole near the eject button, insert a needle (saftey pin, sewing, etc.) into the pin hole and push this opens the drive.
You can also try opening my computer and right clicking the dvd drive and select eject.

Need Driver for LG GH22 22x DVD Drive

Remove the new drive -- and look VERY closely on the back.
You'll find a "two-by-four" grid of gold pins, probably with a black "jumper" between a pair of pins.

Look closely at the labels above each pair of pins:
* MA(ster)
* SL(ave)
* C(able)S(elect)

Move the jumper from its current position to one of the other pins.
Reinstall the drive, and reconnect the power and data cables.
Check that the other-end of the data-cable is snugly connected to the motherboard.

Windows should now "detect new hardware", the next time you start-up.

Mad Dog DVD-RW drive is undetected by Windows XP. The harddware opens and closes and the disk spins. Why will my computer not detect the drive?

what is your slave setting? there is a pin guide on the back with a plastic sleeve if you have the pins in the wrong place it will not "look for it" if it is the only drive it is the master if it is secondary it is a slave.
hope that helps.

Drive light gets stuck on at reboot

Hi,
Try swapping the Jumper block ( Small plastic pin connector ) on The Back Of the DVD Drive. If using both Hard-Drive And DVD Drive on the Same IDE Cable. The DVD Should be set as Master And Hard-Drive As Slave, Or Vice versa.
Failing This, put The Hard Drive On Primary IDE Channel, And DVD On Secondary Channel.
These suggestions, have been made as it appears from your problem listed, that the 2 drives Are Conflicting with each Other.
Finally, is to try a different 4 pin ( Molex ) power cable to either device/Drive. if you have a single rail Power supply unit. the 2 units sharing a joint power cable, may be draining the PSU.

Hope this helps.
