Try pushing it in with gentle but firm pressure. After some distance, it should automatically go in, but at times you may have to push it all the way in.

As Benimur suggested, this could be a problem with the belt-gear assembly/motor, It shouldn't affect the working of the player itself, except for the inconvenience of opening/closing the tray.

If you find this inconvenience unbearable, then you will have to get the device repaired by a competent technician, or replace the player (whichever works out cheaper for you)..

Hi,

Most DVD/CD drive are belt engaged driven by a small motor. If the tray is not sliding in and out by itself, it is highly probable that the belt is cut and therefore of course would require replacement. In some instances, it could be the small motor itself or the servo electronics that control it. There are also known instances when the tray is misaligned or the plastic rail/gear underneath have been worn out.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi XX,

    with the indulgence of XX....

Copy that the DVD drive is in a Dell Laptop. Often they can be removed by removing a single locking screw underneath the laptop and the entire DVD drive can be made to slide out. In certain models, the keyboard must be removed to access this screw and or a locking bar or retainer clip.

Since you have not posted the model of the laptop, pls try to go to the manufacturer's website. I was made to understand that Dell has a comprehensive service manuals available online here. More specific instructions would be available to you then.

    Cheers.

Cd driver not opening

Open a paper clip and see if you can find a tiny hole in the front of the cd drive. Push the sraightened out paper clip into the hole and the drive should open without power on the computer. The hole on my dvd plyer is just above the switch which opens and closes the dvd drive. If the paper clip is too big you may have to go to a pc shop and buy a pin which comes with most new dvd players. If the owner of the shop is a nice person they may give you a pin and explain more.

Dvd won't eject. It lights up flashing like wants to open. I tried to eject dvd every way possible ie., computer link, etc

All CD / DVD drives have a Eject Pin Hole. The only thing we need is a paper clip to use it

krishtam1_dh_8.jpg
All we have to do is bend it at the first curve 180 degrees (straitening it out). Then take the second curve and bend it 90 degrees. Now we need to locate the Eject Pin Hole.

krishtam1_dh_9.jpg
Laptop - Notebook CD / DVD drives:
The trays on laptops/notebooks are spring loaded, so all that is needed is to release the locking mechanism. You do not have to insert the paper clip as far as with a desktop CD / DVD drive, as you are not connecting to the gearing under the tray. Gently insert the paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole. Once you feel it make contact, gently push in and the tray will eject immediately. Once done, gently push the tray back inward until it locks back into place.

krishtam1_dh_10.jpg

Desktop CD / DVD drives:
Gently insert the modified paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole until you feel it make contact with the gear underneath the tray. Firmly pressing inward, you will notice the tray to start to move out. Press inward until you have enough room to get your finger under the tray and then pull it out the rest of the way. If you can only get a small portion of the tray out, you can use the other end of the paper clip to gently pry open the tray enough to get your finger under it. Once done, gently push back the tray to the closed position. It will close firmly when the system is powered up.

Cd dvd door wont open.i push the button to put in cd and nothing happens.i do see a little cd on screen ,then it goes away.

Hi,
On the front of most CD or DVD drives there is a small pin hole that you can use to open the drive if it gets stuck. Grab yourself a strong paper clip, straighten one end, insert the straight bit into the hole and push firmly once you feel some resistance.
This will partly open the drive tray to either allow you to remove a cd or insert a new cd or dvd.
Question, Is there a light lit on the front of the drive when you are:
a. trying to eject (instead of using the front button on the drive try using the "Right Click and then Eject" option when selecting the dvd drive in My Computer), If not the drive may be stuffed (broken) or perhaps the 4 pin power connection lead at the rear of the dvd drive has fallen out.
b. is the drive tray sticky when opening or closing? (get a new drive...very easy and very cheap to buy and replace)
Good luck,
Steve (Melbourne,Australia)

DVD drive doesn't open. DVD is inside.

Switch off the pc. Look closely on the CD tray face plate. You will see a small pin hole. Insert a needle or pin through it and press. The tray will open.

Cd/dvd drive doesn't work. Won't open with eject button, How can I determine if it is a driver or hardware problem?

Look at the drive there should be a tiny pin hole near the eject button, insert a needle (safety pin, sewing, etc.) into the pin hole and push this opens the drive.
You can also try opening my computer and right clicking the DVD drive and select eject. After you do this close the drive and try the button again it may just be stuck if it still won't eject you can try and pop off the front of the drive (very simple it locks back on easily) and find the place where the button connects to the drive to eject and push it, If it still won't open it is your hardware.

Dvd player will not open

look at the bottom of the unit and see if it has a slot to put in a pin and manually open the drive, most of them have some way to do this look for a slot or pin hole to push the release, sometimes they do this because someone pushes the drawer closed instead of using the button or remote, you will have to open it to reset it if that is the case you might have to easily force it open.
