Question about Dryers
I have a Maytag Atlantis gas dryer, model no. MDG6200AWW. When started, it will heat initially but then the heat will turn off. The tumbler works well and the air flow is ok. We have thoroughly cleaned the unit, inside and out.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts and suggestions!
It’s most likely due to a bad vent. Specifically, the airflow through the vent is restricted by any number of factors: overly long, kinks, crimps, clogs, too many 90º turns, etc. Here’s a quick and easy way to check it: completely disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and fire up the dryer. If the heat does not turn off, you know the problem is bad airflow through the vent.

It could also be that the gas valve coils are not getting voltage, The four components that could break the circuit to the gas valve coils are: timer, hi-limit thermostat, operating thermostat, and thermal fuse. Any one of these can fail open and break the circuit to the valve coils.
I would get a repairman to take a look at these if the airflow was not the problem.
Hope that helps...Thank you for using FixYa!
