Not saving my settings

I just changed my wireless router to the d-link vonage enabled router. my problem i'm having is that if i have to recycle my router to reconnect my local network my vonage router always resets it self to factory defaults. i have to always go backin change the password, readd the other computers, reset all ports, etc. how do i get my router to keep my settings even if i have to sometimes reset my router?

Thank you for your quick response. I have only been unplugging my router to recycle it. I guess i must have a faulty router.

    again thanks

I think that these routers have a problem. If they lose power they reset the security settings and password.

Under normal circumstances, you should never have to reset your router. If you have problems, usually you unplug it, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. You DO NOT press the reset button. If you are not pressing the reset button and only unplugging it and still losing your settings, it is a faulty router, exchange, refund is your best option. If you ARE resetting it, then it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

Hope this helps.

Want to set up WEP encryption, but the router doesn't seem to accept it.

You have to use a static IP or PPPoE IP Address in order to enable this WEP function. Use the ASCII settings to enter text. Look at the restrictions noted.

Hi, how to create a password for my network, i;m using a mac kind regards

This is done by navigating your browser to the router and logging in. I suggest that you go to and download the manual. Access is similar to in the ADDRESS BAR, not search...

Here are the highlights of what needs to be set.

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

How should the D-link be setup to work with comcast and vonage? After I set vonage or internet do not work. I tried the comcast modem to d-link and d-link to vonage.

If you want to RECEIVE telephone-calls:

COMCAST ADSL/CABLE modem <---> VONAGE <---> wireless-router

Turn each piece off.
Turn on the COMCAST modem, and wait for its lamps to settle-down to a "steady" pattern.
Turn on the VONAGE router, and wait for its lamps to settle-down to a "steady" pattern.
Turn on the D-link router, and wait for its lamps to settle-down to a "steady" pattern.
Restart the computer that is connected to the D-link router,
and you should have Internet access.
