Question about SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 Player

Refreshing data when i put new music on my player and then disconnect it the player gets stuck on the refreshing data screen and it wont let me do anything until the battery runs down then i reconnect to recharge and i can only listen to what is already on my player it wont let me put new music please let me know if it is fixable or do i need to junk it

    I have the same problem. It says writing and it froze there. but i dont know how to format it wen its like this it doesnt even say its connected to the computer wen i try

The screen is stuck on a screensaver and it will not turn off or do anything


It often happens when it doesn't a file is corrupted. If it gets stuck on "Refreshing database", turn it off by holding the power switch until it shuts down, then plug it on a computer and when the sansa logo appears, unplug it. It will skip the datebase refresh and you'll be able to reformat it.

Update the software else do a format. Make sure ur system is free from virus and other malwares.

Sansa clip is stuck on Refresh Database Screen.


1ST: Just try to 'reset' by holding down the main center button AND pushing UP on the lock/off-on button, for about 8-9 seconds,
It will then 'refresh' the database, shouldn't lose anything,
OR:
MANY problems can be fixed ultimately by the following;
REFORMAT the SansaDisk Clip by finding it in My Computer and right click then just 'format' the thing. THEN drag and drop new music into it (or books), DRAG and DROP, you apparently erase the thing with a 'FORMAT' ....BUT - it's .sys files remain and it is like new {as in empty}
This usually fixes almost anything, should even erase a virus (I'm guessing) but shouldn't hurt it.

Data Refresh


The simple answer is to edit the genre data of your hard rock songs from "Hard Rock" to "HardRock" (remove the space). This sounds stupid but it causes the e280 to freeze during the refresh database phase after writing songs to the device.

I've also noticed that some genres are renamed from what they actually are. Soul, for example, shows up as Punk in the genre list of the e280. Southern Rock displays as Comedy. Mine has version 3.01.11 firmware. I renamed "Soul" to "Soul-" to get rid of the Punk tag, and "Southern Rock" to "SouthernRock" to get rid of the Comedy tag. "Ballad" shows up as "unknown" so I change it to "SoftRock" to solve that issue.

I haven't tried other genres so if you don't have any hard rock songs on your player, try renaming the genres tags to something else to see if it solves your problem.

Very weird...


'Refresh Database' doesn't mean everything is erased. It only means it's writing the progress that you made, onto the computer. It stays on 'Refresh Database' for about maybe 5-10 minutes. It refreshes its database every time you disconnect your MP3 player from the computer. What it does when you disconnect it from the computer is it saves any unsaved changes made to it and overwrites the memory or data.

Frozen on Refresh Database


Take out the four screws on the back and pop out the battery then put it back on. Make sure you synced the songs properly. Add to the problem how you added your songs and I might be able to help.

Stuck on refresh database screen


Hi tt, First, I would delete all the files in your Sansa>Music folder - you may have a corrupt or un-recognizable file that is stalling your "refresh". Check and see if your player refreshes correctly - if it does, update the firmware (see below). If this doesn't stop the problem, you may have to format your player - Windows Explorer>right click on Sansa Player>Format>make sure it is FAT32 and unclick "quick format">Start. You will lose all files that you have not backed up - but your player should start up correctly. Then, make sure that you have the latest firmware update - here is the place to get the updater: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376 - instructions are on the site. After the update, add the files again and see if the unit refreshes - if it does not - it's probably a bad file. The only thing you can do is to add the files singly (or in small batches) until you find the problem file - I hope that you do not need to go this far! Sandisk has fixed most of the software problems that folks encountered in the last six months - IF you keep you keep up with the firmware upgrades. BTW - I have had my Sansa e250 for two months and have had zero problems - I LOVE it! Hope this helps, Steve
