Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

No lights now, do I need more parts? Please help.

I have a problem now when that when I turned it on now (a week later) there is not any picture or lights. I ordered the opto-coupler 7412 and the other 2 ic's 7406 and 7413 and coolant for the bulbs.
Is this a seperate problem from the picture starting out small and then warming up becoming normal size? Do I need to order a Flyback now or could this still be related to the opto-coupler?
I really need to become a premium member on here, Do they accept PayPal?
Thanks.

Sorry The power LED does come on and there is still power coming into the TV but the CRT'S are not lighting up at all anymore. I didn't want to leave it on for too long though because I didn't want to cause any other problems. Thanks I will check the fuses If I can locate all of them without the manual. So could this be the flyback or still the opto-coupler and other 2 ic's the may be out compltely now. Could this be related to resistors on the convergence board or anything on there? Because that is the only board I checked the resisters on and none were open.

Thanks for all your help, I really appriciate it, I am 38 and disabled and this is my only hobby I have to share with my son now. So your help is really appriciated.

The opto coupler is usually related to just the pic starting out small then filling out after warming. The flyback wouldnt stop the power led from coming on unless the HOT shorted but that would blow a fuse. Check your fuses. Do you have audio? If you have audio it could be something as simple as the Vertical output not getting contact which would shutdown the crts as a safety issue. Try reseating the stand up boards on the signal board where the Convergence Ics are located

RCA HD52W59 Turns Off

Hi, Based on your post/description, my guess is a loose connection or a cold solder problem (higher probability). Not unless you want to make another "30 mile trip", you have to find a local tech who is comfortable working with live/hot sets. The usual precaution on working with live/hot units and HV applies. This involves opening the back cover, powering the unit and with a foot long + insulated rod (I use a broken fiberglass fishing rod), poke around the inside of the TV, part/move the wires about, also press on the boards slightly. The idea is locate the loose connection or the cold solder. Soon as located, poweroff and resolder. If there is a component/board failure, the unit would not have operated intermittently. There is a big chance that the loose connection or cold solder just worsened and that cause the recent "chosen not to work". Further, the power light still turns on and you have not posted any other indications such as a beeping sound or blinking leds/lights which normally indicates failure. Hope this be of assistance/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Sound, but no picture. Standby light blinking 5 times

A few weeks ago my set started flashing to a black screen. Now a couple of weeks later, i have no picture, but the set turns on and i have sound. The standby light is flashing. I purchased the set in 2000 so it is seven years old. This is the first problem. Could it be all three of the bulbs? Could it be all three of the bulbs? no as you say that sound is ok that means your power supply &high voltage section is ok. please check chroma ic luminance section or system control section stand by ckt ihanks

I have the exact same problem with my tv. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what is wrong or how to fix it either. I notice your post is from July. Have you found a solution since then? - Sarah
