Question about Arris SB5100 SURFboard DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem (50120900100)

Motorola SB5101 Modem disconnects

From time to time I get kicked off the internet. The only thing that seems to solve the problem is disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord to the modem. Any idea what the problem is?

    PC activity blinks constantly, the rest are solidly on (with the exception of Standby)

    my modem is disconecting anytime it wants to... I checked the signal strength and it was fine but i get random disconnects...

    My cable modem is approximately 18 months old. Over the past 2-3 months I have been getting increasingly frequent spontaneous disconnects from the internet. All modem lights except the power light go out and then come back on one by one with spontaneous reconnection to the internet. It seems to be more frequent with higher bandwidth requirements such as viewing Youtube videos or listening to Sirius internet radio. My cable company, COX, came out and checked their lines and boosted the signal a bit. This hasn't helped. Could the modem be failing? THX Mike Bishop

    Do you see the DSL and internet light blinks while getting disconnected from internet?

    What is the light status after disconnecting...

* If you can connect after disconnecting power and reconnecting, it means there is formation of static charge on modem

* Check whether there is any cordless phone or any other satellite devices next to the modem. If so, move the modem 10 feet away.

* If your modem is placed on carpet, please place it on wooden desk

As long as your laptop doesn't have a firewall enabled then you should almost always be able to get connected by directly connecting your unit to the router.

Here is how to Determine if you Windows Firewall is enabled
Once it is disabled try resetting your Belkin back to Factory default Settings.
If all that still doesn't work I would attempt attaching it to the modem, and know once and for all if you router is working correctly.

I cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable modem to connect to a belkin g wireless router. the light on the belkin flashes orange when i try to connect it to the modem but no internet connection


I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

If you are able to access the internet this is a normal operating status. These lights are just letting you know there is activity present with the modem and the modem is sending and receiving information with your provider.

My Motorola Sb5101 modem will not let me access the internet, the send light constantly flashes and i can't attain any internet connection.


If you have the following lights :
Power light - on
Receive light - flashing
Send light - flashing
Online light - off
PC/Activity - on
Standby - off
Then your Network Access is OFF - modem is successfuly registered but Network Access Control is disabled via DOCSIS configuration file.

Call your internet service provider....

Keep getting cannot connect to primary dns server


you need to call the cable company tell them your ip lease is cycling every 15 minutes, it is a node conflict, they can fix it on their end. if the cable modem is a hacked one, then you just need to clone a new MAC yours is not valid anymore. if not a hacked one, call tech support. good luck!

Can't acces internet by using Motorola SB5101


You need to input IP and DNS information in windows. I can only help you where to input but you need to contact your ISP for IP address.

SB5101 Motorola Modem Disconnects Randomly


If all the lights go out I would assume you mean the power light as well. Couple of things I would look at:

Has your ISP replaced the modem including the power adapter?
Has your ISP verified there is no short on the incoming data cable? You could try to wiggle the incoming data cable to see if the lights go out. I would do the same on the power cable.

If it's not a mechanical fault (cables), verify that you have the correct and current drivers for your modem and operating system.

DISCONNECT EVERYTIME


Modems firmware needs to be updated
or
Electrical interference is causing all the trouble
Make sure there is no interfernce in the surrounding
