My computer "goes black" all of a sudden, connected to the ac adaptor, not running on battery, and while I'm using it. In order to have it "come back", I need to turn it off by keeping the power botton down a few seconds, and then turn it on again. It's been doing it for the last month (I baught the laptop in February). Virus scan comes clean. I'm on the Windows Vista, with updates.

I have a similar problem, my satellite if left goes black, cant get the screen back without tuning off completely. Also, the screen saver doesnt cut in, so if on the rare occassion that I get it back, it then locks the machine when the sceen comes back, and I need to log in again to my account. Like the screen cut out. Seriously thinking of taking this piece of S*** back to VideoPro and swapping it for a chalk board, would be more use.

I have the same problem ! mine is a toshiba satellite A100. it happened every time i'm with battery, not with adaptor

I have the same issue with my Toshiba Satellite A135-S4467. The screen frequently goes black with with battery or attached to the plug, it doesn't seem to discriminate. I have had mine for over a year and had this problem from day one. Only way I can recover my screen is to shut down the computer completely using the power button. I noticed that even when the screen is black the computer programs are still functional, i.e... yahoo messenger, people will still IM you and if you type back it will still send your message even though you can't see what you are doing.

I have the exact same problem, but it mainly happens when I'm running on battery. Really inconvenient, if anyone has any suggestions that would be wonderful

I have the same problem with a new laptop 1 week old this problem has happened since day one. I've called tech support about 4 times and they have had me change some stuff both nothing has worked yet. I guess I'll return this laptop even though it seemed like a good deal price wise. This problem occurs when on battery power or plugged in and is not related to power saver, sleep, or hibernate settings as stated by a toshiba tech.

Hi,

It appears that the computer is infected with virus and may need full system recovery. You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key
& keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on
the computer.

You can also create a set to Recovery disk from the recovery partition, to do so
Start Menu> All Programs> Acer erecovery management> Click Create Factory Default Disk, if you receive any error code or unable to burn the disk, please contact Acer Technical
support at 1 800 816 2237 and order for an Recovery Disk.

Thanks and regards,
Jitha

The screen on my macbook pro keeps turning off instantaniously. The laptop its self is still on, though the screen just goes black.

I think your macbook is running on power save mode. This will turn your screen black (off) after few minutes of no interaction with the computer or if your PC is on idle.

I turn my Dell Latitude D600 laptop on and startup screen shows as usual but then it goes to a black screen. Can you help?

If your computer keeps on running after it turns black the problem maybe is the LCD. However if the computer is not running after it went black then possible problem is with the MOBO (Mainboard)

Hope it helps.

I fixed this same problem using a registry scanner. Here's a link to a good free one:

I've used this one and it sped up my computer by quite a bit. Hope this helps.

BLACK SCREEN

don't try to turn it off then back on straight away (with the power button).. this will confuse the computer and keep it on with no back light.

try letting it power down fully before you turn it back on.

ps. if you did not turn it off in the first place then find a update for the back light driver/firmware. also known as bios update :S
