Hi there...My brother gave me his Dell 3200MP projector and it turns on fine and is quite bright but when the count down gets to around 15 it shuts off and the oranee lamp light comes on...there is also a dark spot at the top of the projection...Does this mean I need a new bulb...or should I try yourrecommended cleaning method described here by opening it up...it is not under warranty anymore.
Providing that works I want to pair it with my G4 Ibook...do you know if it will be compatable?
Mine did the same thing. Count down would get to 10, 5, 1, 2--didn't matter, then it would shut off and the lamp light would come on. I've tested a new lamp in it and it stayed on for 3 min without shutting down. I will purchase a new lamp when the funds allow.

are both of the lamps the same? have you installed it correctly in the socket. you might need to do a cold start for your projector. unlpugg it and try to wait for 5 minutes before plugging it again and turning it on. one your projector detected that a new lamp is intalled, it should work fine now. but if its still not working, you might want to try and replace the new lamp again. sometimes this happens.
did the old lamp fail? Or did the lamp light just come on?
Firstly I would disconnect the mains and carefully put the old lamp back in. Test the projector. Then put the new one back in and test.
There can be problems with lamps not being seated correctly, and/or the lamp cover not being fully closed.

The ambient temperature in the room is to high. Try lowering the room temperature. If that doesn't work get a small fan and place it near the projector to provide extra cooling. The projector is running border line on high temperature and just needs a little extra cooling.
NO , it will definitelly not solve the problem at all.
Usually if there is a discoloration it is either the colourwheel ( turn the Projector upside down and back again - if you hear anything loose falling around on the inside - then your clourwheel is broken) But the unit will switch off almost 98% of the time if the clourwheel was faulty.
Otherwise it is gonna be your Mainboard that needs repair or replacement. Must warn you it is a expensive part to have replaced.
Did you ever get a solution to this?
I am having the same problem with my 3200MP
The machin will come up but only show a dim white box on the screen. I've purchased another bulb and that was not the problem.
